Chantilly Lace

Chantilly Lace

I suppose I have to now……. I’ve been putting this off for awhile……. It’s been over two weeks……. So I’ll just jump in at the deep end……. Chantilly died suddenly……. So suddenly…….. I can’t wrap my head around any of this……. We’ve involved the county’s Environmental Crimes Unit… But like everything else……. …they are not going to be able to find anything……. We have her death on surveillance camera footage……. …….very dramatic… …….very sudden… I’d been watching the horses since…

Addy’s Owie

Addy’s Owie

  It doesn’t look it……. …..but Addy’s doing better… We really are………………………..phew… Her temperatures are now within “normal” range…….even though the weather continues too be in the 90’sF. and there are no afternoon rains yet.       It’s Hot!     Last night at 8:00PM, after all of the day’s heat, Addy’s temperature was 100.6F. That’s very acceptable (for a horse). Right now, I’ve got multiple water sources spraying and sprinkling all over this property. My home-made, PVC-piping “T”…

A Year Has Gone By…….

A Year Has Gone By…….

    April 21st., 2019… I know it’s Easter Sunday………. ……….but it’s another day too……….   ……….it’s the day last year that our horses started dying………. My family is trying to move on………. …..we are………. Additionally it’s the anniversary of my Father’s passing……………   Quite the day, isn’t it?………. But……………we’re also hoping that Claire is in foal to Brave………. That’s something to celebrate……….isn’t it?!! We do still need Dr. Stevie Wonder to confirm by ultra sound to make sure……….  …

Trail Riding Again

Trail Riding Again

    Esther came over today and we went trail riding. It never ceases to be therapy for me…………….as long as I don’t fall on my head… And, today, I didn’t. Tra!  La!   Celebrate the small stuff………. Esther and Chantilly had a good outing. It was a relaxing, easy ride. And here’s another mini-celebration………….Addy got her tootsies wet today, in a minuscule muddy puddle (that in her mind was probably filled with hoof-dissolving acid)…………..and she didn’t melt…………….!   For…

~~~The Girls~~~
~~~The Girls~~~

  We’re getting there… The girls are slowly putting on weight……………….but where horses are concerned~~~slow is good……………….where I’m concerned~~~I can put on weight at super-sonic speed~~~eazy-peezy……………..and also, not so good.     I’ve had to hang a horse crop out by the wagon (where I feed the ladies), so that I don’t get mowed over in their zealousness getting to their feed pans.       Chantilly and Claire have had a history of scant and/or scarce meals of questionable…

The Pop-ster

The Pop-ster

  I went trail riding a couple days ago with my friend, Lola. We haven’t seen each other for a while. It’s been because of the hot, hot summer weather…………well, that and me loosing all of my horses last spring…………………………………….(sigh) But it’s time for a happy day now. Lola came over and we went trail riding…………..it’s the first time I’ve ridden since before the horrific April tragedy………………………………….(sigh). Lola rode Chantilly. I rode the Pop-ster……………….who tried me with a couple of…

Sprinkling Ponies

Sprinkling Ponies

  It’s been unusually hot and humid this year. This weather has been dragging on longer than what anyone expected. I’m thinking that there is a cooler weather front that is on its way………….stalled, but on its way… In the meantime……………..the horses are really uncomfortable and blowing. Chantilly (who has breathing issues right now anyway) is huffing, but so is fat-Poppy, who is puffing away… A couple years ago, I made a tall PVC attachment for one of our hoses………………a…

Ponies Packing Poundage

Ponies Packing Poundage

  The Clydesdale ladies are putting on weight. Most times, we girls don’t want to admit added dimensions or even think about the potential of extra poundage. But for Claire and Chantilly……………….this is a good thing. These days they’re both happy members of the “clean-plate-club”. I am putting them both in the “rescue horse” category. I had originally thought that Chantilly was in okay shape when I got her and that Claire was the only rescue case. Now, I’ve reconsidered….

Chantilly’s Feeling Poorly

Chantilly’s Feeling Poorly

    Well, we were talking about Claire being the unsound horse of the pair of Clydesdales that I bought and brought back home from the rural Alabama hills. But, we are not talking about Claire right now… Don’t get me wrong………..Claire is still in dire need of concentrated hoof treatment, and she needs major poundage put on her bones…   This will be an on-going battle for this big, silly pony.         Today however, we are…

Out-Smarting The Clyde (s)

Out-Smarting The Clyde (s)

  Chantilly & Claire are fitting in quite comfortably here at home.     I have them in the front yard right now……………….double electric-fenced from Brave.   It’s not a good time of year to consider pasturing them together. Having foals in eleven months time would not be a good thing.  It would still be way too hot for a baby to be born…………….foals don’t thermo-regulate very well when they first arrive.   My plan is to let them “co-mingle”…
