Mister Lawn Jockey

Mister Lawn Jockey

I can write about “him” now… He’s not a secret any more… I was requested by Ester’s husband to paint a concrete lawn jockey for Ester as a holiday gift… …..and subsequently an old lawn jockey was delivered onto my driveway… …..the chickens and I and Patrice were enlisted to paint Mr. Lawn Jockey (a.k.a./M.L.J.)… …..he needed a good wash…..and a scrub…..and then multiple coats of sealant… …..and after a guarded phone call to Ester…..I found out what colors she…

Opening Hunt Meet

Opening Hunt Meet

Yesterday was our fox hunt club’s Opening Hunt Meet. It was the official opening of the Fox Hunting Season following the Cubbing Season. It was held at one of our favorite venues. An absolutely beautiful ranch with pastures and woods and streams and bridges and ponds. My younger daughter and I couldn’t go this year……. …..again… She’s not ready yet to ride her new horse, Anja……. …….which reminds me, I haven’t written about Anja yet——-(her purchase, or her shipment (from…

Mason and Sebastian

Mason and Sebastian

Mason has a new home. Mason has a better home. Mason has a new job now too. He has gravitated from being an apathetic, non-breeding/non-productive stallion….. …..to being a potential hunter/jumper gelding in-training….. ***Disclaimer***(Mason was never consulted about the personal cost of this career transition…..) However, he is now ensconced three hours south of us in Sarasota. He has a glowing future of possibilities. He already looks like he fits easily into the horse shoes that are in store for…

All Hallows Eve & All Saints Day

All Hallows Eve & All Saints Day

………….phew, this has been a super busy week and then some…………. Our Hunt Club Tea went well… People were well fed… Music blared.  (A huge industrial fan had to be enlisted (we have record breaking heat here in Florida for this time of the year.) I feel good when people not only eat the food I’ve made, but also take carrots for their horses along with a take home plate for later for themselves……. …..that means the food must’ve tasted…

Annual Lobster Party

Annual Lobster Party

We did it again. We pulled off another annual Hunt Club Lobster Party. 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 lbs lobsters abounded…….well, they really didn’t “abound” per se. Bounding would have been difficult with those rubber-band-things on their claws. But in the news, at the same time, was a rare occurrence in a lobster net in New England.   A bright blue lobster was caught.   *****Blue Lobster Caught In New England***** *****Albino, Calico, & Blue Lobsters*****   Apparently it’s…

Hound Walk

Hound Walk

It’s the off season for Fox Hunting, but activities still continue. The foxhounds need walking. They need to have regular activities as a pack. The veteran foxhounds need exercising while the younger hounds need to learn what a hound pack is all about… *****Fox Hunting Terms & Definitions***** Older hounds are “coupled” with the younger entries……………..which means they are actually attached collar to collar with a short leash-link in between…. During an actual fox hunt, hounds are still referred…

Hunter Pace

Hunter Pace

For this Hunter Pace, we were at a new venue much further south than usual.   It was a beautiful day. Sunny, blue skies, nice temperatures.   Lots and Lots and lots of people and horses. I didn’t ride.  I helped sell merchandise. Well no, I didn’t help much at all…………….I mostly socialized… But it was super fun.   In the early morning hours, my younger daughter and I met up with my good friend Simone (Jt. Master of…

Oh, Where—Oh, Where……….

Oh, Where—Oh, Where……….

Last Wednesday’s Hunt was unique, catered & cold. Actually, the catered Tea was really good.  It was Greek.     We have a large Greek population in the Tampa Bay Area, specifically in Tarpon Springs. So the greek food in this general area is really good. There was a gyro bar where you could make your own, lots of hummus, and authentic greek salad.   Really nice…………..not suitable for my Dr. Atkins dieting though. I settled for lettuce.  …
