L-Tryptophan Is My Friend

L-Tryptophan Is My Friend

We pulled off another Thanksgiving Day dinner……. The kitchen sink is relatively clear of dirty dishes the morning after……. …..so that’s a win too……. …..and the left-overs…….are well…….left over……. …..so that’s also a win…….’cuz I ain’t cookin’…….                               ……I got to watch the Macy’s Day Parade…….I got to see the Radio City Rockettes, but NOT the Budweiser Clydesdales…….hmmmmmmmmmmmmm…….(?)… …..I didn’t see them in last year’s parade…

Addy——Here We Go Again…

Addy——Here We Go Again…

So now let’s delve into the “Saga-of-Addy”……. Or maybe, given our recent two year span, it should be called “The Sad Sojourn of the Farm in the Swamp”(?) Addy seemed off her food two weeks ago…….her head-set was carried lower than normal…….her eye focus was not quite right……. …….you know, all those intangible things that set off flares and alarms!?!… So, I started taking her temperature… It was elevated…………. …..103.4F….. …..@#$%$#@! Our vet zipped by and took blood for comparative…

Mani/Pedi Time…….

Mani/Pedi Time…….

Our skinny, young farrier came this morning… His belt buckle still out-weighs him… I hope he hasn’t gotten into chewing tobacco yet… Normally that’s a must with blacksmiths & farriers here in the South… You can see the faded “ring” on the back pocket of their jeans where the Skol or Copenhagen can has left its mark… (being involved in sports medicine…….I just don’t get chewing tobacco…….our vet, Stevie Wonder does too…….I just don’t get it) But poor ole’ Claire…

Shaving A Clyde

Shaving A Clyde

Call it Clydesdale-sacrilege, if you will……. I’ll get to their full-body clipping later… But for today, we were just concentrating on their leg feathers… Two horses;  Eight legs… Hours of scissoring.  Hours of shaving… I learned this time and wore my work gloves. Otherwise, holes would have been worn into my thumb joints………….again… That would have been because of the need for preliminary scissor-cutting of that extra long, tough Clydesdale leg hair……. (I measured some of it…….9-plus inches) We needed…

Update

Update

  Addy’s bloodwork came back. It was slightly improved from the last panel which was done the third week in June. It wasn’t great…….but it was better……. Her first two blood panels in March and April were bad… And we don’t know why… …….but they’ve gotten progressively (albeit slowly) better since then… …….and this most recent one was better still…(not great, but better)… I wish I could figure out how to get the reports copied to this blog…….but that’s beyond…

I Just Don’t Know

I Just Don’t Know

Yesterday, Addy had blood pulled for her sixth—VI—6th time since March for yet another bloodwork panel. I had the vet out…….(the week-end vet, not Stevie Wonder). It was because Addy stopped eating…….and she’s always been a shining member of the clean-plate-club… My heart hit my heels and my stomach stopped in my throat… I have every reason to take paranoia to the extreme… ~~~~~~~~~~~~~Time out for keening, self-hugging and rocking~~~~~~~~~~~~~   Her temperature was all right.  But she just didn’t…

Hunt Season Is Around The Corner

Hunt Season Is Around The Corner

Tra!  La! Soon…….the 2019/2020 Hunt Season will begin.   In fact, this coming weekend is our Annual Business Meeting.   It’s like the unofficial kick-off of the Hunt season. Even though it’s still beastly hot…….it’s good to know that fox hunting is just around the corner. Yippee!     Tra!  La!     Yahoo!     Zippity Cricket!     I’m Happy! I’m getting a jump on the season’s start by clipping and grooming Addy for the up-coming Hunts. Suzanne-Annette…

The Shoeing Stock Is In Place………………………..(or is it?)

The Shoeing Stock Is In Place………………………..(or is it?)

  Today we moved the horses’ shoeing stock inside the barn and out of the weather. I would have done it myself…………………but some good sensible logic stepped in (temporarily) and I asked my good friend (who’s a ranch manager) to come over and help with the tractor-tactical-movement of the wooden/monstrosity of a shoeing stock to it’s permanent home inside the barn. I really don’t want to have to move that thing anymore…………. It’s already got major mileage on it since…

Time For Mind-Dulling Activities & Productivity

Time For Mind-Dulling Activities & Productivity

  What to do…………….what to do…………. I need to find something that keeps my hands busy and puts my head in a numbing, non-thinking zone.   There’s bush-hogging that needs doing again. (……..there’s always bush-hogging that needs doing…….)           Those infamous shear bolts are beckoning and just begging to be sheared off again……….. Well, there’s always that………….     Or I could smear toothpaste on all of our CD’s and try buffing out the scratches… The…

~~~The Girls~~~
~~~The Girls~~~

  We’re getting there… The girls are slowly putting on weight……………….but where horses are concerned~~~slow is good……………….where I’m concerned~~~I can put on weight at super-sonic speed~~~eazy-peezy……………..and also, not so good.     I’ve had to hang a horse crop out by the wagon (where I feed the ladies), so that I don’t get mowed over in their zealousness getting to their feed pans.       Chantilly and Claire have had a history of scant and/or scarce meals of questionable…
