***Hay Delivery***

***Hay Delivery***

I love my little tractor… It’s not big, but it’s mighty… If it were any larger, it would be difficult and/or impossible to maneuver around all of the stumps and cypress knees…….(and sink holes)… We have a front-end bucket… We can attach a hay-spear on the front bucket to lift and move the round bales… (I have to be careful if the bales are extra large or too fresh a cut…..and if we don’t have an attachment hooked to the…

~~More Chick-let Information~~

So the fitted-sheet/swaddled dog cage is working quite well…..thank you for asking… The house-kitties are…..less soggy…..but still daring & damp……. …..and completely thwarted (so far) in their attempts to snag a Chick-let McNugget out of the cage… …..(I just love it when a good plan comes together)….. We’ve suspended their waterer from the top of the cage…..so there are no wood shavings in their drinking water…..(and no drowned chicks, either…..so far)… …..I dipped all their little faces in water prior…

~~Springtime and Chick-lets~~

Our mail-order baby chicks have arrived… We went to our main post office to pick them up early in the morning… Last year I think we hatched out our own… I usually have to replenish the flock with purchased/mail-order baby fluff-balls…   *****Mail-Order Chicks***** It’s all about the roosters (or at this stage the cockerels)… Over the years I’ve found that you naturally hatch out at about a fifty/fifty split of pullets and cockerels when you let the hens get…

Water Tanks Come And Go

Water Tanks Come And Go

We put Anja and Poppy into Mason’s old pasture in the back yard… The Wolfhounds thought this was the best thing EVER… …..except for the fact that two draft ponies have no intention of running away from or panicking about the barking/bounding/bouncing Wolfhounds… …..they just stand and stare…..not interested at all in the Irish mob on the other side of the field fencing… …..they doze with half-closed eyes…..staring into the middle distance…..chewing on their cud (if they had a cud)……

A Study Of Snouts

A Study Of Snouts

We’ve recently had an explosion of pigs… We went from four (three sows & one boar) to a total of fourteen piggies over night (or so it seemed)… And that’s with two of the adult females being sterile…(so it appears)… The eleven current juveniles (from two separate litters) are all out of one sow……. …..the wild Russian-esque piggy… Maybe it’s just as well the two other sows aren’t fertile… We would have had a huge pig extravaganza otherwise… …..they might…

COVID-19 Virus…….And The Farm

COVID-19 Virus…….And The Farm

Life is a tap dance… …..if you are lucky…..you can keep up with the tempo… …..as this corona virus pandemic unfolds…..the dance steps keep changing… …..we don’t know what tomorrow will bring…..we’re just taking one day at a time… …..so many things in life are like a Twelve Step Program… …..you can plan ahead as much as you want…..but you still have to take it one day at a time……. …..which is where we are at……. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ I’m trying to…

~~~Pecking Order~~~
~~~Pecking Order~~~

In the mornings (before the outside temperature gets too warm), I open up the doors to get fresh air circulating through the house. As we get closer to summer, that routine will be stopped because the heat will always be too high.  There just won’t be a cool time at any point in the day. But while the front door was recently open…..and we were taking advantage of the morning coolness……. …..I was able to hear a rooster smack-down starting…

Art In Odd Places

I’ve been accumulating photos of what I consider odd/artsy objects around the farm for quite some time… This seems like as good a time as any to build a post around them and to share my artsy-fartsy interpretations thereof … ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~I  Will  Call  This  Exhibit~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Stylistic Sodium Chloride (with minerals)~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Now I Offer For Your Perusal~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Hey!  It’s Not Just Hay~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ *****Oh…And Happy St. Patrick’s Day***** *****I Just Counted*****We have twenty-four Irish Wolfhounds in this house right now*****    …

~~~Farm Husbandry…….(with the husband)~~~
This last weekend was productive… Some key projects really needed addressing… They were all a decrepit/rotted mess… …..beyond decrepit… Fence repair is ALWAYS high on the list… Fences are never perfect… Fences always need fixing… Did you know those elves or pixies who live in everyone’s dryer……the ones who steal and/or eat all of those spare socks…….? …..well, I’m positive their second cousins are the fence-gnawing gnomes… I’m sure those beasties live in a dead stump out back in our…
~~~The Daily Egg Hunt~~~

*****Disclaimer To My Friends***** *****There Will Be Snake Photos In This Post***** (…..there I feel better now…..) (…..I have a few squeamish friends…..) It’s that time of year when my biddies (the chickens…..not my friends) are warming up to more egg production… It conveniently coincides with Spring Egg Celebrations like Easter… Being that my hens are all truly free-range…..that means they can lay their eggs just about anywhere… A daily egg-search is a must……. …..on top of the generator……. …..in…
