Claire likes babies…..

She is attentive…..engaging…..TOLERANT…..directive…..

…..and protective…..

I don’t know what her background was before we found each other…..

…..I don’t think it was a very positive one…..

…..she was certainly neglected…..

But she seems to know that she has found a safe place…..

…..somewhere where she’ll be okay…..

…..(I still think it’s odd that she and Chantilly were both missing the same front tooth)…..

…..(and that Claire can’t efficiently “scoop” with her lips when she’s eating)…..(food is always dribbling out…..the chickens love picking up what she drops)…..

…..(but it would just be conjecture on my part)…..

…..(…..Hell…..I’ll just jump right into it)…..

…..I think…..(given that both horses were previously owned together)…..

…..(I can trace back their papers)…..

…..I think somewhere in their combined past…..some previous owner had a temper and a 2″ x 4″…..

…..(they were both quite head-shy)…..(Claire still is)…..

*****(I think I’ve mentioned before that I interact with animals better than I do my fellow human)*****(my fellow man disappoints me quite often)*****

But Claire is here now…..

We aren’t perfect…..but we try…..

Claire has been an incredible milk-producer for her son…..

He’s a chunky/growing mound-of-mischief…..

He is not lacking for nutrition at all…..

However now, what I do have to watch out for is Claire’s over-all weight…..

When I brought her home from Alabama…..she had just been taken from her john mule baby…..

…..she was really down weight-wise…..her hooves hadn’t been touched…..(plus she’s a pain-in-the-patoot about lifting up her feet)…..

…..she was not a healthy girl…..

But in time…..and regular meals…..and wormings…..and hoof-care…..

…..there’s been a steady upward climb and improvement…..

And now Claire has a bouncing/healthy baby boy at her side…..

…..this is the time we really need to throw food at her constantly…..

…..she’s hungry ALL the time!…..

Mary Constance suggested a high-fat/grain-mix when she first arrived and she’s been on that ever since along with free-choice alfalfa…..

…..because she’s currently nursing the behemoth…..

…..she’s getting three meals a day…..

…..and she vacuums up everything every time…..

It’s still a battle to keep weight on her…..

She’s an angular Clydesdale to begin with…..

…..but I’m going to work hard to keep the padding where it should be…..

Keep eating & chewing Claire…
