One Cold Day In Florida

One Cold Day In Florida

We Had A Hard Freeze!!! Tra!  La! Take that mosquitoes! I don’t think we’ve had a hard freeze for the past two winters at least… We need at least one a winter to kill off the green-gooies that get to thriving in the heat and humidity down here…….(witness Ben’s head). And the mosquito population has been growing each year exponentially. As an aside…….did you know that we have elected officials who head up our Mosquito Control Division? ***Our Elected Mosquito…

Mission Accomplished ~~~Puppy Proofing The Christmas Tree

Mission Accomplished ~~~Puppy Proofing The Christmas Tree

We finally got the tree up AND we got it lit! It’s not pretty…….but it’s (fairly) puppy-proof… Let the games begin!                       Tra!  La! My younger daughter and I went to our special tree farm and picked out our tree…….(we’ve been going to the same Christmas Tree Farm since my girls were in diapers.)   ***Lazy Lay Acres Christmas Tree Farm*** …..Paulo gives us ceiling height measurements ahead of time.  We…

Morning Has Broken…….

Morning Has Broken…….

…….and so might Copernicus. I’m up much earlier than I intended… It’s still dark outside…   …..but my bedroom was suddenly brightly lit…     I could have slept through the sudden light very easily… …….but the roosters (who are right outside my bedroom window in Stalag Coop) figured that the sudden bright bedroom lights meant it was dawn (albeit from the wrong direction)… ***Stalag Coop Explained***(Before I Learned How To Use Photos) Copernicus………………………………………………………..! Even with soft/squishy cat paws, I…

Copernicus…….really?…

Copernicus…….really?…

Copernicus is more raccoon than house cat. He’s got Bengal spots, but he’s not a Bengal (that’s a domestic cat breed). He’s a Puma breed that my friend is trying to get recognized by the CFA registry (Cat Fanciers Association). I’m sure he’s more of a raccoon than a house cat……. …..he loves bright-sparklies… Bright-sparklies can be anything that appeal to his kitty-sense of fun-ness & curiosity. …..he collects them, he hides them, he plays with them, he eats them……

Worming The Cats

Worming The Cats

Parasites happen. It’s disgusting…..but true. They are more places than what we realize……. …….and sometimes they’re beneficial.   But, my kitty-kat-ums all needed worming………… …….just don’t ask me how I know…….yuck……. Good animal husbandry means you have to keep up with regular wormings of everybody. ………….but, I HATE worming the cats… …they hurt me……. Horses are easy to worm. Some of them even like it…….we’ve had a couple in the past who would chase you down if they saw the…

Cat Catastrophe Contained

Cat Catastrophe Contained

I just got my recharger-cord-thingie in the mail. The scraps of the torn, padded envelope still litter the kitchen floor. The cats are already plotting their next attack. My older daughter has given me a protective case for my computer and its new, pristine recharger-cord. Tonight I’m camouflaging my computer in its new case on the cookbook shelves in the kitchen.  It should look like a fake cookbook on the shelf.     Take That, Cats!!!        …

The Cat Conspiracy

The Cat Conspiracy

I have to type quickly.       I’m running out of computer juice. My cats have conspired against me and chewed through my computer’s recharging cord.   I have to Amazon-Prime a new one………………… I have Amazon-Primed a new one……………………         Pascal, please bear with me………………….(remember Pascal?   I named that cloud-thingie that I blog to Pascal—————he’s my friend). DaVinci Came Home

Heh,  Heh,  Heh……………..   Oh, who’s a poor kitty? Yes, you are! Yes, you are!     Aaaaaawwwwwwww…………………….. NOPE………………not really one bit……………… DaVinci……………..be glad you have absorbable stitches……………..because I would have gladly been inclined to pull them through with the knots still intact……………. But you’re not………………… …………………intact!……………… HA!      I just made a neutering joke!!! Pay backs, DaVinci………………………..pay backs… You had a flamboyantly expressive urethra……………………but I wielded the credit card……………….the-final-club-of-judgement……….!   HA!  Scan that!!!   Just a little…

Pot Luck Woes

Pot Luck Woes

Today’s Tea is a Pot Luck. I prepared for it last night by making over six dozen peanut butter cookies (my grandmother’s recipe).   I dutifully placed them on the THIRD shelf of our pie safe, which is attached to the wall above one of our kitchen butcher blocks. The third shelf is the “safe” shelf. We know this from trial and error experience. Anything  below the third shelf, the cats can reach……………… We’ve caught them licking…

Counting Kitties

Counting Kitties

Over the years I’ve found that it’s best not to ask permission. Just wait and see what happens. Having an escape plan is not a bad idea either. Really I apply this philosophy to just about everything, but here specifically I am talking about adding animals to our farm, either livestock or pets. Specifically with this post——-additional house cats. We currently have three main house cats and one apathetic barn cat. Thelma (an overtly fluffy tiger lady) who I was…
