~~~Anja Is The Best~~~
~~~Anja Is The Best~~~

My younger daughter and her new horse Anja continue to bond. It’s great to see their relationship forming. I feel like Anja will learn to look out for my kid. She’s a gentle soul. Anja is still at Suzanne-Annette’s…….she still has one more botulism vaccination before she can come to our farm… …..but she’ll be coming home this month. Tra!  La! It’s winter here in sub-tropical Florida… Suzanne-Annette is a native Floridian… The temperature has dipped occasionally into the 40’s…

It’s Finally Cooler…

It’s Finally Cooler…

The weather has FINALLY gotten cooler…!!! Tra!  La! I don’t know how long this is going to last though… It’s been hot and sweltering and humid for so very long. I’d forgotten what pleasant weather felt like.. …..I’m used to moss and mold growing on everything…..including me… …..late summer here is much like swimming through terrarium-scum….. But I recently had to dust off the heat lamp and put it on Long John Silver (our geriatric Umbrella cockatoo) for the last…

Tropical Cyclone “Nestor”

Tropical Cyclone “Nestor”

Well “Nestor” blew through… ~~(why was Nestor categorized as a Cyclone and not a Tropical Storm…….I do not know)~~ We were on the right-hand side of this storm…   So we didn’t get the brunt of the winds…….but we did get the rains… He dumped a lot of rain… Honestly, with everything that has been going on here with the Irish Wolfhound puppies and the accompanying late night sleep deprivation…………I almost completely missed this one… *****Hello—My Name is Nestor***** …..that…

Dorian

Dorian

  Abaco was first……. Dorian is over the Bahamas now……. All of the U.S. eastern coastline waits & watches……. Dorian is just camping out over those poor islands……. He’s so huge and so slow……. The islands are so flat……. It almost looks like he’s just parked right over them……. …..I heard that the Grand Bahama Airport is under five feet of water……. …..I knew a woman who went down to the islands to start a horse carriage business……. …..sigh……. I…

Dorian’s Meanderings

Dorian’s Meanderings

It looks like we dodged the bullet…….(or the Ziti). …..this time….. …..however, our escape still isn’t etched in stone…….Mother Nature is at the helm… …..but again, I find myself asking——-why am I still in Florida…..? …..oh yeah, I have Floridian children who were both born here and don’t know anywhere else… *****Muckluk Definition***** I could just buy them muckluks & scratchy, woolen underwear and drag them back up North with me to an Ohio farm… …..it’s a thought… …..a serious…

“Dorian” (et al) & The Bees

“Dorian” (et al) & The Bees

****NOAA’s Atlantic Update***** What was dry in December, is not dry now… What was dry in March, is not dry now… The same in June… And most of July… But not now.   When I set up the bee hives, I picked a “higher” spot in the goat pasture…….(let’s face it—–the goat pasture is synonymous with “the back swamp”.)…….(“swamp” being the operative word) I even put the hives up on two cement blocks. But even without a hurricane, we are…

Patrice & Me & Mud

Patrice & Me & Mud

I sit here after barn chores in wet over-alls… I should be showering and laundering off all of “this”… But what’s the point? It’s going to happen all over again when I go back outside later… I think Patrice & I will just flick off the chunky bits and wait for the “rest” to dry. What I mean by the “rest”…….can be defined as mud/poo/pee/sweat/more-mud/and tears……..maybe that should be a name for a rock group?………….oh, wait…….I think it’s already been…

Hunt Season Is Around The Corner

Hunt Season Is Around The Corner

Tra!  La! Soon…….the 2019/2020 Hunt Season will begin.   In fact, this coming weekend is our Annual Business Meeting.   It’s like the unofficial kick-off of the Hunt season. Even though it’s still beastly hot…….it’s good to know that fox hunting is just around the corner. Yippee!     Tra!  La!     Yahoo!     Zippity Cricket!     I’m Happy! I’m getting a jump on the season’s start by clipping and grooming Addy for the up-coming Hunts. Suzanne-Annette…

Farm Gates

Farm Gates

I’m probably premature in writing this…   I should probably wait until after this year’s hurricane season is complete before I take an inventory of unscathed gates… But my memory is poop and I’ll probably forget if I don’t write about it now. So here goes…   I was scanning through my photos and I saw a plethora of demolished gate pictures……. …….so I figured the topic could be a good/fun/(expensive) blog post.     Metal gates are a mainstay…

Oops…….I Did It Again

Oops…….I Did It Again

I love my tractor. It’s a wonderful machine.   It’s diminutive but mighty… My Mahindra diesel 2615-HST I suppose it could be bigger.   I’m sure I could do more damage if it were bigger.   Maybe it’s good that it’s not bigger. Recently, I made a little mistake while taking out a compressed alfalfa bale…(approx. 900 lbs.)   The bales that were delivered this month are extra big and extra heavy…….but that’s a good thing…   If I don’t…
