——-Bees…Again——-

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* Well…Here Goes….. I’m about to do it again….. I love the little bastards…(they scare me so)…(I feel like I owe it to Mother Nature to keep trying)….. Down here in sunny sub-tropical Florida…starting up new bee hives is usually done after the commercial citrus bloom is completed….. …..when the beekeepers have more time to evaluate their hives…make new ones…and follow the blooming spring…as it follows the sun’s seasonal warming northward….. If you think…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* I’d forgotten to mention….. Remember the recent dressage show that I went to with Ester….. It was an over-cast day…not super hot…maybe a little humid…but relatively pleasant for Florida….. There’s a reason I am telling you this….. …..while I was out there…in a large open field…with everyone else….. I had a honey bee land on my upper arm…and I watched…as she very deliberately…got into position…and stung me(?)….. *****I was really surprised***** I was…

I was just called by the Florida State Department of Agriculture for their annual survey about how many hives I’m currently working….. …..it was so sad to say………….none….. I understand their need to…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* CLICK HERE***Maybe This Link Will Get You To My Tick Tock Channel*** I’ve been thinking….. …..(it’s never too early…or late…for a good muse or two)….. ***To Bee or not To Bee***

It’s that time of year…..well not quite yet….. …..but soon….. Do I?………….Or Don’t I?…..start up my hives…..?….. …..again….. If you remember…..last year I had a lot of false starts….. I was just about to buy the start-up honey bee nucs….. …..and then the Covid-19 Pandemic hit….. …..and the murder hornets arrived (on the U.S.’s west coast)-(and as far as I know they aren’t here on the east coast…..yet)….. …..I tried…..I got delayed…..I tried some more…..it got too hot…..I gave up……..

Murder Hornets?…..C’mon!

Murder Hornets?…..C’mon!

Bees have been around……..like……..forever……. Who am I to think I could better plan what’s best for them……. BOTH of my hives have abandoned me and are still empty. But why??? Earlier when I had three consecutive puppy litters in a row….. …..I wasn’t able to keep up with giving them sugar syrup on a regular basis….. …..but I thought they were well-established with new brood & stored honey….. …..I figured they had to do their part too (just a little…

Waging War On Robber Bees

Waging War On Robber Bees

I’ve taken on the battle… I will win this war… I will… …..but whenever I feed sugar-syrup to my hives, I’ve discovered that they are almost immediately under attack from other, wild honey bees (no doubt subsequent generations from my past, absconded hive residents). However if left unchecked, an organized robber bee horde can clean out any residential bee hive very, very quickly. …….and everybody gets into a very, very bad mood……. I had a planned game strategy this week…

Grumpy Bees

Grumpy Bees

Did you know that honey bees get grumpy on cloudy days? And don’t plan on opening their hive when it’s raining…….it would be rude and they would make sure you regretted it. I’m getting into stride with my regular hive-care. Our rainy season is here in sub-tropical Florida. I had forgotten about the “grumpy-bee syndrome”……………..but they enthusiastically reminded me of it. They are happy bees when it is sunny (not too windy)-(no rain)-(no clouds)………………like I said, sunny……….

The Value Of A Marble

The Value Of A Marble

The Value of a Marble…   Often it’s the small things in life that make the world go around… Quite often it’s easy to miss them…   Some can’t be seen, but they can be important and pivotal… A drop of lavender oil on a light bulb.  The paperclip that holds up the fly on your favorite jeans. A prayer, a thought, a thank you.     Here’s one that helped so much recently…   A marble……….in my hives. My…

Queen Bee

Queen Bee

Everyone says beekeeping is so easy… They say things like:   ***You just have to get used to it…   ***It’ll become second nature with time…       ***With practice it’ll be easy to tell the difference between worker bees, new worker bees, drones, & the Queen…     “They” say these things while they’re sitting on lawn chairs in the middle of their bee yard while wearing bikinis and speedos…   HA! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ It’s NOT easy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Here:…
