*Perusing & Pursuing The Pigs*

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* Remember the pink bench that we put out in the pig pasture (a.k.a. the goat pasture–a.k.a. the swamp)…so that we could sit and watch the pigs?….. …..It has already come in handy….. *****Sound the Alarms!***** *****The Pigs Got Out!***** *****It’s A Pig Stampede!***** Well…really what happened…was my older daughter hadn’t locked the chain around Beau’s and Ginger’s gate…and they pushed it open…and walked out….. And then they quietly grazed for the afternoon on…

~Pasture Gates~

~Pasture Gates~

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* In my lifetime I’ve hung a few pasture gates….. Big horses…unruly foals…strategically placed falling limbs…obnoxious buck goats…(misdirected tractors)…and hurricanes….have all played their roles in the need for replacing farm gates….. Fence line changes have played their part in the addition of more gates…but honestly…it’s usually because a gate gets obliterated by some act of Nature….. …..(or a defiant draft horse)….. And so…my daughters and I have become aficionados at gate placements…re-placements…and installations….. …..and…

~Grazing Pigs~

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* I haven’t written about the KuneKune pigs recently….. They’re doing well…They say hello….. They are such pleasant creatures….. I can’t say as much about MaMa pig…(our feral sow)…she’s still super scary…and someone not to turn your back on….. But recently my older daughter left “the Boys” out to graze….. They have a nice fenced in piggy pasture now…not that they’re known for wandering around that much….. …..if you remember KuneKune pigs are not…

Things To Do~~Places To Go

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** I’m Home From The Hospital!…Tra!…La!….. Okay…that’s the first step….. …..we’ll figure out what’s going on with me later….. But now…I’ve got things to do….. We’re approaching the summer heat quickly…(who am I kidding…it’s already here)….. Two days ago…Clover was suffering from the heat….. After the big oak trees blew over during Hurricane Milton…it left Clover’s pen in the sun…without shade….. …..and that was okay during the winter…but we hadn’t considered what would happen…

Konstipated Kune

Konstipated Kune

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** Well…I still don’t know who won…and who’s Alpha Pig….. They are playing their cards really close to the vest….. But if Scott’s constipation is any indication…I would bet that he lost….. Scott is not eating…which is highly unusual for a pig….. Special treats were offered…and refused….. Apparently girls swooning…being in a new home…fighting for his old Heavy Weight Title….. …..well…it was enough to cause some clenching…and resulting constipation….. Beau seems to be a…

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** I need to post about our recent pig adventures….. Our Mentor-For-All-Things-Pig…recommended that we keep Beau and Scott together in one pen(?)….. Beau has been with Clover for awhile…and apparently they’ve become “just good friends”….. Also…apparently…this happens with KuneKune pigs…when they are housed together….. They become non-procreating platonic buddies….. …..(who knew?)….. Where KuneKune’s are involved………….absence makes the heart grow fonder….. Our Porcine Mentor said…the boys have to be penned together….. …..because they can’t be…

***Scott Has Arrived***

***Scott Has Arrived***

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** Scott arrived this week….. We now have two KuneKune boars…Beau and Scott….. They know each other…they grew up together…they are both double registered…but from different lines….. Both boys had become “redundant” genetically at the woman’s farm–(who has become our “Porcine KuneKune Mentor”)….. She knows all things KuneKune….. Where it’s necessary for her to introduce new bloodlines into her pig production…it was hard (impossible) for her to send Scott off for “processing”…(to the butchers)……..

Pigs And Pens

Pigs And Pens

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** You’d think by now…we’d be caught up with the Hurricane Milton repairs….. But…you’d be wrong….. MaMa Pig is still in “her” stall in the barn…she’s been there since Milton rolled over us….. …..(and she’s not a good house guest)….. The horse stalls in the barn were never intended to house pigs….. …..but in recent years…that’s all they seem to have been used for….. Originally…I sloped the stall floor with red clay…then covered it…

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** Remember the movie “Braveheart” with Mel Gibson playing William Wallace…and his rally for Freedom?….. My hurricane-secured livestock (who we had safely stalled in our barn)…decided to breakĀ out….. Lots of young goats…as well as MaMa Pig…scurrying and bounding everywhere…(MaMa Pig doesn’t scurry…she rolls along with her sizable authority)….. These beasties did an organized/combined jail break….. They probably concentrated on the old lower boards….. Too much standing water…too much flooding…added to their escapability….. …..and let’s…

~~~When In Doubt~~~
**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** When in doubt….. …..buy more pigs….. …..apparently…that’s become a thing….. Interspersed with all of our hurricane clean up…and then perusing Craig’s List during rest breaks…we came across a pig farm who was struggling with post-Milton water issues….. An unfortunate farm a little south of us had most of their pastures flood….. …..short…inflexible pigs with snouts about four to six inches above the ground…can’t deal with too much submerging or water….. The people were…
