We have a lot of “revisions” and/or “revisitations” of ideas here on our little farm…..

…..I’d rather call them “revisitations” instead of mistakes…..

…..potatoes…potatoes…..

…..(and again…that expression looses something in print)…..

My original idea of raising meat rabbits hasn’t quite gone as planned…..

I mean…the rabbits did just fine…it’s the project that didn’t launch as expected…..

But I’m not giving up…..

At the beginning…I had cut and J-clipped the wire cages together…

I hung them on the wall right outside my bedroom window…(so I could hear any intruding predators at night)…..

I even strung electric wiring above and below their hutches…for added safety…..

…..(to the dismay of several raccoons)…..

BUT…my cavy-breeding program…didn’t take off…..

We had a couple babies…early on…but not any since…..

Did you know that if you over-feed a doe rabbit…it can make her infertile(?)…..

…..and with all of the coaching…cajoling…instructing…and pre-measuring…we CAN NOT get my younger daughter to follow directions…..

…..her chore is to feed the rabbits and chickens…and she routinely fills up Daisy’s feeder…..

So Daisy is a fat rabbit…..

And probably infertile…..

Just like the previous girl bunnies…..

But we are changing the system…for a number of reasons…..

The first of which is…the rabbits are now falling through the rusted bottoms of their cages…..

…..(apparently rabbit urine is very corrosive…and smells bad too)…..

The second of which is…the girl bunny and the boy bunny should probably be in the same cage more often than what has been happening…..

…..does anyone need that one explained?…No?…Good…Then I’ll continue…..

So…I have another plan…..

Tear down the old rusted/floor-less cages…(make sure my tetanus shot is still up to date)…and put the bunnies in the turkey coop…..

…..which now only has one geriatric turkey hen along with a passel of French Black Copper Maran chickens…..

There will be far more room for the bunnies to hop around and hopefully procreate…(I was told that they breed like rabbits)…..

But ours haven’t…..

There is another problem to consider…..

…..rabbits burrow and dig…I’ve had them dig out before…from that very same coop…..

And so…to my younger daughter’s dismay…the next “revision” and “revisitation” is about to take place…..

…..and she’s going to be my project-buddy…..
