The Pirates Came………….The Pirates Went…..

Tampa Bay was pillaged…yet again…..

Jose Gaspar and his flotilla invaded and blockaded the Port of Tampa…..

There was Drinking…There was Partying…There was more Drinking…..

…..(did I mention that Gasparilla Day is a big partying event?)…..

If you check the curbside-piles later for the trash collectors…I’m sure you’ll find a number of sad blenders…who sighed  &  died trying to keep up with the weekend’s demands for…..

…..(it’s a thing here in Tampa Bay)…..

…..(plus our local strawberry crop harvest is just around the corner…so the early fruit figures high on the list of daiquiri ingredients)…..

On Gasparilla Day…the City gets divided into Ye Olde Krewe’s…..

Now that you’ve had your over-load of Gasparilla’s History and Nuances…..

…..here’s the down-side…..

It’s a mess afterwards…..

…..Clean-Up Krewe’s HAD to be organized…..

Bayshore Boulevard is the beginning of the Gasparilla Parade…..

It’s a beautiful part of Tampa Bay…..

It also has the distinction of being the longest continuous sidewalk in the world…..

…..it’s even listed in the Guinness Book of Records…..

The poor people who live along the parade-route…have had to deal with the parade’s-aftermath…..

…..(over the years…some very creative spectators and parade participants have left phenomenal trash-heaps)…..

It’s amazing how much mess a bunch of bead-slinging/rum-swigging Tampanians can make…..(?)…..

And when did we become known as Tampanians?…I’ve been here since the seventies…and we were all just known as Tampons back then…..(?)…..

So all in all…this last weekend…a good time was had by all…..

…..and it was cold…..

When I woke up…it was still in the forties…..

…..but knowing my fellow-Tamponians…..

I feel sure they just dropped back and punted…..

They just swapped the first round of drinks for Hot Toddies or Rum Grogs…..

But to be honest…..there was just NO chance I’d go to the Gasparilla parade with the temperature so cold…..

I’ll wait for a year when it’s in the eighties…and then go…..
