Patrices come…..and Patrices go…..

This has been a really tough year for Patrices…..

…..actually the various Patrices and I have been under my older daughter’s judgy-eye and close scrutiny…..

She has literally snagged them out of my dirty clothes hamper…..(when I may have been less than obliging at handing over a particularly old/patched pair)…..

…..or run me down to shed (shred) them off of me…..

…..(unlike Dylan Thomas…..I do NOT go gently into that good night)…..(shrieking & kicking is more like it)…..

…..my Patrices are my buddies…..sigh…..

After we’re dead and gone…..you could probably clone both of us from Patrice’s thread-bare residue…..

I do have new/shiny/bright/fresh-smelling Patrices in a neat(ish) stack in my closet…..just waiting for their turn…..

My Aunt Cory from Ohio got them for me when their local Sears closed and there were clearance sales…..(I wonder what happened to Roebuck?)…..

…..but my old friends are hard to let go of…..

…..I think the clincher with my older daughter was when she saw me darning an old dish towel patch over one of the more revealing holes…..

…..(I had gotten tired of people identifying my underpants patterns)…..

I figured cutting up an old blue dish towel for patches would work to cover the holes and my under garments and restore some of my dignity…..

…..my daughter felt otherwise…..

She said it was bad enough wearing my newer Patrice to the bank or the grocery store…..(though she did think that was even pushing it)…..

…..my patched-oldies were totally out of the question…..

Hey…you never know when Patrice is going to regurgitate something needed from one of her well-stocked/mystery pockets…..

…..you know…..you can’t always foresee when you might need a rectal thermometer ASAP…or maybe a compass…..

…..I don’t judge…..

…..all of my Patrices are my friends…..
