The Hay Delivery

Alfalfa bales can go bad quickly in Florida’s Humid Hot Summers…..

I had purchased what I thought Brave and Pepper would need here for the month of September…and it was delivered on Labor Day…..

Pepper…et al…(Malcolm–the Irish Wolfhound puppy, my older daughter, and Mary Constance)

Which was all fine and good…if things had remained dry here…but…things didn’t…..

It’s always a crapshoot in Summer in sunny subtropical Florida…well honestly…it’s not even that…..

It’s more of a guarantee that it’s going to be soggy and humid…..

…(our back goat pasture)…

But you always hope for the best…and plan for the worst…..

So…at present…things are too wet for Pepper to come here…..

…..she would sink…..

But then there’s the nutrient-rich…highly-degradable…highly-moldable (as in inedible spore accumulations)……($Expensive$)…three-string square bale alfalfa hay…..

…..that had been delivered here…..

I mean…we took precautions…the square bales were stacked high & dry…on pallets…and under roofing…..

…..but…..

…(hay pallet)…

It’s alfalfa…..

…..you can look at it…and it will start molding right in front of your eyes…..

Needless to say…something had to be done with the excess hay…so it wouldn’t go bad…and be a total loss…..

…(past year’s alfalfa bale (and Otto the barn cat)…that’s not snow………….that’s mold)…

So my older daughter and I loaded up the bales (alfalfa and tifton)…..

…..as many as my truck would hold…..

…..WITHOUT A TAILGATE…..

…..(Yet Again…Thank You Very Much…you clueless Home Depot loading aficionados)…..

…..(I need a replacement tailgate…but it’s still too hot to wander around the junk yards to try to find another one)…..

~~~But Back To The Hay Delivery~~~
Once the bales were securely(?) strapped in with ratchet straps…away we blew down the Interstate…hay flying in the wind…to Mary Constance’s barn…and Pepper…..
Pepper
We were supposed to have bags of Purina Strategy GX (which is what Pepper is eating) delivered on Labor Day too…but…somehow or another…they had never been delivered(?)…..
…..Paid For…Yes…..
…..Delivered…No…..
…..with one succinct/less-that-patient phone call…the feed store is now crediting my account for what was not delivered…..
…..(next month’s delivery will be done with a magnifying glass and a check list)…..
…..(Hey!…(Hay!)…It All Adds Up!)…..
Once down at Mary Constance’s barn…we unloaded everything using her 4-wheeler and a wheelbarrow…..
…..those suckers were heavy…..
This week the weather continues to be dry…..
…..but…..
…..another good friend (a little north of me…up the Gulf Coast) just texted and said “something” is percolating to the left of Cuba…..
…..time will tell…..
………….(crap)………….
