*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* The entire State of Florida is under a Heat Advisory….. *******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* …..Hoo Baby!  It’s Hot!….. The forecasted temperature for the last few days has been 96F!…and that’s not even taking into account that mysterious “Feels Like” temperature…the one that’s SO much hotter…the one that all the meteorologists like to threaten…. I worry about the animals….. I worry about the animals who are outdoors….. I worry about the horses….. I just worry….. …..a lot….. Where Acts of God are concerned…that’s about all I can do…so…

Tyra Taking Names

Tyra Taking Names

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* When a new horse is added into a pasture…there is always a political shake down with regards to the equine hierarchy of the group….. Actually the same thing happens with other livestock too…cows…dogs…goats…chickens….. And quite often the new kid on the block enters in at the bottom of the ladder….. But…not so with Miss Tyra….. When Tyra arrived a few weeks back…the mare’s pecking order was inevitably going to change….. …..(look at that…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* We’ve discovered that Pepper does not like getting her feet wet….. Well…when I say “we’ve discovered”…what I really mean is that Mary Constance found out (while whipping off of her during last season’s Fox Hunts)….. Pepper does Not like traversing anything that contains any amount of water….. She refuses to step in it…cross it…or navigate it in any way….. Usually after a great deal of “cajoling” (that’s what we’re going to call it…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* I just looked down at the tee shirt I’m wearing right now…and it says “Boss Mare”….. I suppose that’s true…but on a farm…it’s important to establish who’s in charge….. I’d like to point out…in addition to being boss mare…I’m also alpha bitch…but if you know me…you know that already applies….. …..(someone’s gotta do it)….. Pepper and Crimson are firmly ensconced here on our little farm already….. I’ve got my Clydesdale mare (Pepper) and…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* Draft horses are big….. Everything is over-sized…they are tall…they have big hooves…big barrels…big heads…and big butts….. …..and even when they do something small…it ends up big….. All horses rub and scratch…to one degree or another…(especially in the summer months)….. You always need to look for the cause of any excessive rubbing………….the weather…skin conditions…bugs…and yes…worms….. There are lots and lots of potential causes….. When they rub their butt cheeks or tails…your first go to…is…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* Well this IS good news….. Our new blacksmith actually returned for the mare’s second trimming!….. He seemed committed last month when he first came to trim the girls….. But you never know where blacksmiths are concerned…especially when it comes to trimming the big horses….. As I’d posted before…Montana quit on us…and from the horse-gossip I’ve recently heard…he’s quit on blacksmithing entirely….. However…we were able to find and hire Arizona as our new farrier……..

Blacksmiths Aren’t What They Used To Be

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* It wasn’t easy….. But we found one….. Our past blacksmith quit on us….. After Claire and then Brave passed…a little bit of time went by…but not much….. When I recontacted him…our farrier said he’d been ill…after an exposure to glyphosates…(not the first time we’ve heard that)….. ~~~Don’t Get Me Started On Round-Up and Monsanto and Bayer~~~ My farrier had a single occurrence Grande Mal seizure…and after that…he decided he was only going to…

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* The Hunt Season has begun….. Pepper is still down at Mary Constance’s…but she’s fit enough to go out on several Hunts already….. She really seems to be enjoying herself…she already knows the in’s & out’s of being a Whipper-In’s mount….. It’s a little more complicated than what she would be doing with me….. My Hunt contributions really cap out at how many flasks I can hide all over myself and in my saddlebags……..
