Here we go…..

…..the difference with this year is…I think I might just be ready…(if my breeches still fit)…..

This coming 2024-2025 Fox Hunting Season is about to begin…..

It starts with Mounted Hound Walks…then progresses to the Business Meeting…then Cubbing Season…..

There’s a mare named Pepper that I can Hunt…(of course she’s a Clydesdale)…..

Mary Constance has her now…she’ll be introducing her to the foxhounds at the first Mounted Hound Walk…..

Hunt horses should be totally nonplussed with a pack of foxhounds milling around their hooves and under their bellies…..

In the past…(most of) our horses have been laid back and relaxed around multiple foxhounds doing their job…noses to the ground…working a scent…..

…..(a couple were not but…shhhhhh…don’t tell anybody)…..

The best person I know of…to introduce a horse to the hounds…is Mary Constance…..

Over the years I’ve known her to be on some absolutely incredibly bombastic mounts…..

She can easily multi-task…(while dealing with a hot thoroughbred)…utilizing a double reined bit (accurately)…carrying a hunt whip…which is hard enough for me…(I usually end up with the horn tip poked in my eye…or up my nose…or worse…I drop it)…..

She also necessarily uses a squawking walkie-talkie (Mary Constance is a Whipper-In).  I need to point out that most off-the-track thoroughbreds do NOT immediately tolerate raucous electronics on their backs…..

My claim to fame is…hopefully I don’t fall off…or heaven forbid…drop the cap to my flask…..

Suffice to say…Mary Constance and I are in very different riding categories…..

So I feel super confident…that a Clydesdale mare…(who she will be riding in an upcoming Mounted Hound Walk)—(and has also put her grandchildren on)…will be just the horse for me…..

I’m not proud…..

It’s good to reach for the stars…but it’s also good to know your limitations…..

I need to ride a plow horse…..
