My daughter and I use power tools………….a lot…..

It’s necessary…..

We’ve learned how…..

I realized in typing the categorization of “power” with “tool”…that it…also categorizes my age…..

…..(I’m old)…..

Years ago…they were just “tools”…not “power tools”…..

The word “power” is a fairly recent addition…..

The word “tool” was just a noun…all by itself…(I’ve known a few)…..

I remember (and still have & can use) my Grandfather’s…and my Father’s wood drills…and saws…and levels…..

…..manual…old crank wood drills…(with changeable bits)…..

…..years later…the word “electric” was added…..

…..and that was the coolest thing…..

They never tired out…because they were no longer muscle-driven…..

…..you just needed an extension cord…and an outlet…and voilà…..

…..(just don’t stand in water)…..

With the new electric drills…I put so many unintentional holes through so many things…..

…..they were SO quick…..

…..I could even drill backwards in reverse…through boards…(unintentionally)…(many times)…..

The drills were fun to draw…and rev…just like a six-gun…..

…..(perhaps a bit irresponsible and immature…but still fun)…..

Then came………….Battery-Operated-Power-Tools…(said with echoing…decreasing volume…for effect)…..

I also quickly discovered the lost-leader of sales on super-inexpensive/power-tool kits…..

…..usually on Father’s Day…(a bit sexist…don’t you thing?)…..

All those wonderful combinations with variable doo-dahs in handy yet durable carry-bags…in the appropriate trademarked brand-related colors…..

…..I like RIDGID…(all my tote bags are RIDGID’s trademarked orange)…..

BUT………….fooled you………….the tools might be comparatively inexpensive on sale…..

…..however…not so with the necessary batteries…..

…..because the expensive batteries ($$$) are sold separately…(and are hardly ever (if ever) on sale)…..

What good is a sparkly…cool…new circular saw…or angle grinder…or compound drill…without a battery?…..

…..Zero…Zip…Nada………….Zilch-o…..

Subsequently…I learned NOT to buy the super-deals on sale…and just stick with one brand…..

…..because…Surprise!…the batteries between brands are…NOT…interchangeable…..

There’s Milwaukee…Black & Decker…Ryobi…DeWalt…Borsch…Makita…..

…..and RIDGID…..

I’ve become a RIDGID loyalist…..

…..because if you fill out their lengthy warranty paperwork…the tools are guaranteed for a lifetime…(and RIDGID is true to their word)…..

…..(plus my older daughter compulsively fills out ALL their paperwork)…..

So other than being banned from using my RIDGID angle grinder with a cutting wheel attachment…..

…..I love ALL my power tools…..

…..I suppose there were good/just reasons for me being banned from that lethal combination…..

…..(just a few necessary stitches & butterflies and I was right as rain(?)…..

…..(and I don’t want to talk about it)…(and I still have all ten fingers)…..
