Have I ever seen a Florida Skunk Ape?…(it’s Florida’s Sasquatch)…..

…..not yet…..

…..but…I expect to…..

We don’t live far from the Skunk Ape’s tramping grounds…..

…..(apparently he has “a corridor” here in sunny Florida?)…..

…..and I have to admit…the different venues where we regularly fox hunt…look exactly like his preferred environs…..

…..maybe our horses were actually bolting at hidden Skunk Apes and not feral hogs lurking in the palmettos?…..

I wonder why our Florida equivalent of Big Foot…smells so bad?…(apparently he smells awful)…..

Everyone else gets a non-odiferous Yeti…why do we have to get the rank-smelling Skunk Ape(?)…..

…..then again…after working all day…out in the Florida summer heat & humidity…..

…..I probably smell about the same as a Skunk Ape…..

Everything percolates here in the heat & humidity and can quickly culture into something that would melt a Petri dish…..

…..things can easily bullate over night…(cool word, huh?)…..

Maybe Skunk Apes started out as feral rabbits or swamp squirrels…and then fermented(?)…..

Maybe being too long in Florida’s swamp waters…make them ripen into Skunk Apes?…..

…..I do not know…..

…..but having wandered out into our back swamp in chest waders at the height of the rainy season…..

…..I can believe that anything is possible…..

…..I remember thinking at the time…(as the water was coming up to my armpits)…..

…..why are you out here?…is this a good choice?…..

…..no one can hear you…you’re just animated-chum…..

…..there’s only a small layer of neoprene separating you from…”all those swamp-things”…..

…..(sometimes I really should be put on a leash)…..

Apparently…ours is a sheeting (or transient) swamp…it doesn’t always have standing water…sometimes it’s dry…..

…..(and yes…there are different types of swamp categorizations)…..

But at that moment…with the swamp water lapping under my pits…my belief in the Swamp Skunk was easy to embrace…..

I wonder if they’ll move in?………….maybe they already have?…..
