I’ve been thinking…..

…..(it’s never too early…or late…for a good muse or two)…..

I was thinking that I should re-visit the re-population of my honeybee hives (again)…..

…..you know…..Hope Springs Eternal…..and all that…..

But it’s been so hard keeping the little boogers here…..

I really want to keep the hives populated and thriving…..

In the past…..I’ve done that…..but they keep absconding (bee-lingo for running away)…..

However…..

I haven’t yet tried re-populating my hives on top of the new platform that was made for them…..

The idea behind the platform was to have it off the ground on legs that other bugs (like carpenter ants) would have to climb up in order to reach the hives…..

I’ve already purchased six (6) small feed pans that can fit under each leg…..

…..that way I can “float” each leg in either water…..kerosene…..oil…..whatever will discourage other bugs from taking up residency in my bee’s hives…..

…..(some have frowned on my idea)…..(I don’t listen to “some”)…..

Well that’s the theory anyway…..

It seems workable…..

I still have to fence off the bee-deck from the dairy goats…..right now the goats like sunbathing on top of it…..

…..there won’t bee enough room for everybody otherwise…..

It’s worth a shot anyway…..

I think I can afford one nuc (at about $200)…..if it works…..I’ll have to learn how to split the hive to get the additional hives going…..

But that’s my current plan…..

…..St. Patrick’s Day has only just passed…..normally nuc’s are available after the citrus blooms down here…..and the citrus blooms right around St. Patrick’s Day…..

I still have a little time to spare…..I need to clean the cobwebs out of the the supers…..and get the fencing up…..

…..if I’m anything…..I’m persistently stubborn…..
