Hoof Care Time

I “think” we’re making headway with Claire’s hooves…..

But when my vet doesn’t know…..and my blacksmith doesn’t either?….

…..then who am I to guess…..(?)…..

Remember that weird semi-soft-semi-turgid-lumpy-thing that appeared on the outside of Claire’s hind right hoof?

My blacksmith didn’t want to touch it…..he wanted me to show it to my vet…..

I showed it to Doctor Stevie Wonder…..he said it was “probably” from the hoof canker…..

…..and he didn’t want to touch it either…..

…..but its exterior was smooth…..and not the irregular surface that would be expected with hoof canker growths…..(?)…..

It came out between the outside/right hoof bulb and the lateral to anterior hoof wall…..

It even cracked the hoof…..(?)…..

I thought we were going to loose her after this last flare-up…..

……………………….and…..then…..it went away……………………….

I had thought that Claire would start to lay down more to get the weight off her weird bulbous-growth-ridden hoof…..

…..but she didn’t…..

I had thought she would go lame and start limping…..

…..but she didn’t…..

Claire is made of cast iron…..

…..she’s a strong ole’ girl…..

…..she worries me…..

Montana also did Anja’s hooves and Addy’s hooves…..

…..they were good girls and stood quietly for him at the hitching post…..

…..we didn’t have to go to the barn and the shoeing stock for them…..

So far the shoeing stock is only reserved for Claire…..

Both Addy and Anja had easy trims all the way around (all four hooves)…..

We are on Montana’s schedule in another six weeks or so…..

I hope Claire keeps improving and stays sound (ish)……….

I hope that weird bulbous-thing stays away…..

I hope she’s not in pain…..

…..she doesn’t seem to be…..

…..time marches on…..one hoof step at a time…..
