Those of you with large-hooved-horses understand what I mean…..

A big horse needs a big hoof to support its big body and weight…..

But it would be nice…..if they would keep those big hooves…..

…..underneath their largeness…..

…..but instead…..they swing them around haphazardly when they’re walking…..

…..they need to take responsibility for their hoofage…..

…..because they hurt…..excessively…..

…..they need to keep track of their hoove’s trajectories…..

One of our first draft horses had a “Shuffletown Sue” in her ancestry…..

…..that fits…..

I think it is the same with any large animal…..

…..they don’t know just how LARGE they truly are…..

Maybe it’s because Clydesdales have such big-wide-flat-feet…..

…..(Frisbee-sized)…..

…..that they are just happy to be able to pick them up…..

…..and plop them down…..

…..in ANY sort of linear-motion…..

…..and the mere fact that my foot gets in the way…..

…..is IRRELEVANT…..

…..(to them…..maybe)…..

…..there have been many more than one occasion…..

…..when I have been leading one of our Clydes…..

…..(Claire…..you know I’m talking about you)…..

…..where they are rambling along…..

…..AND THEN THWACK!…..

They SMACK the back of your heel with their hoof!

…..GEEZ…..LOUISE…..THAT HURTS!….

…..it stings!…..

…..and brings tears to your eyes…..

…..and your nose starts running……

…..and all those words you swore on New Year’s Day…..

…..that you’d never say again…..

…..you spew them forth with gusto…..in huge/voluminous/bellowing oaths…..

…..(those words alone bring tears to your eyes too)…..

I’m sure if I had X-Rays done on both heels…..

…..there would be multiple/spidering/road-map/calcified fissures…..

No wonder one of my legs is shorter than the other…..

…..and I walk with a limp…..

I am a walking/illustrated billboard for the need for steel-toed & steel-heeled boots…..
