I love stained glass…I fell in love with it years ago…..

I found myself sitting in fairly empty churches…..

…..just me and the dust motes…..

…..watching the different angles of the sun’s rays angling through the stained glass windows…..

I’m not a Sunday church goer…..

…..but I love hanging out…sitting in pews…and quietly watching the windows…they have so much to say…..

I like the smell of old damp stone churches…or age-dried wooden ones…..

Decades ago…when we first moved out here and settled in our swamp…I met the neighboring couple…..

They were both absolutely fascinating…he was a retired diplomat…she was an accomplished artist…..

Over many martinis…we had a lot of conversations about art…she liked working with oils & charcoal…I had already started with stained glass…..

She queried me about why I chose glass as a medium…because it was so rigid and stiff…..

I remember saying that glass was so very malleable…it interacts constantly with Mother Nature…a sunny day…a cloudy day…a lightening flash…they all have a different expression through the glass…..

…..and then she started working with glass…and she caught up and surpassed me…..

It was so much fun going through the individual panels of her most recent glass purchases…..

…..each one was unique from the next…even if it came from the same color lot…..

…..every piece of glass has a personality all its own…..

We both loved glass…..

As the years went by…she created so many beautiful pieces of glass art…..

Soldering Iron

…..and then…unfortunately…she passed away…and so did her wonderful husband…..

Recently her son-in-law brought by one of her unfinished pieces…and asked me if I wouldn’t mind finishing it…..

I agreed………….I hope she doesn’t mind…..

There isn’t anything creative that needs doing…I wouldn’t do that…her piece is her own…..

But…it needs a little soldering to finish things up…a couple pieces are only tacked in…and others just need the finishing bead work…..

So that’s what I’m doing right now…finishing my friends last piece…..

I’m honored to do it…I hope she approves…..
