It’s Springtime; This is a Farm; Babies are Being Planned.
We’re making plans for a date for Sonja.
Well actually, an extreme pen pal would be more accurate. Her date lives in the state of Washington.
He is a gray dun Fjord……………….so is she……………..
Perfect.
By his papers and lineage, I would guess he neighs with a German accent.
A match made in heaven…………………..well, to be more accurate……………..it’s a very long-distance match, with the aid of Federal Express, and our vet’s long reach………………….
Mother Nature has a gleam in her eye and a sense of humor.
My daughters grew up understanding farm reproduction————–the old-fashioned-kind as well as the over-night-mailed-kind.
In the springtime any of their friends who would come for sleepovers, I would first have to explain to their parents what may or may not be occurring on the farm on the days that their children were here for a play-day…
Over time, my daughter’s friends’ parents got used to our farm-disclaimers.
Most would say, “sure, fine……….whatever”. Others were grateful they didn’t have to explain “things”. Others had to have me explain “things” to them…………….sigh…
We’ve had ten foals over the years…
Multiple, multiple baby goats…
Many baby llamas…
Bunnies and turkeys and chickens…
And lions and tigers and bears…
Oh my!
…………………..And if the !@*&%#$@#*&@! electric fencing will just hold a decent charge, then Violet, Ruby, and Mystic will have dates with Brave…………………
Spring time is exhausting.
