The Necessity of Vultures
**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps**********

Vultures (or buzzards) are a necessary bird…..
They get a bad rap…..but they do a great service…..

…..there are lots of “clean-ups on Aisle 6” when you’re on a farm or in the country…..
…..vultures are efficient…..and surprisingly quick…..

They have a pecking-order (HA!) and a running-tally-system of what gets eaten first…second…and third…..
We collect the skeletons of what’s left after the vultures and insects have finished their clean-up-duties…..

…..actually…..I’m not sure why we collect the bones…..but we do…..regularly…..
…..there’s quite a varied assortment of skulls in a number of buckets on various shelves in the garage…..

Today my older daughter came in from the morning feeding…..
She told me our local/resident vultures were confused…..

…..she was concerned as she walked up to Mama Pig’s pen…..
…..there were quite a few vultures perched on the various trees around the pig pen…..

…..(not a good omen)…..
However…..all ended up positive and happy in the end…..

…..apparently all of the piglets are very sound sleepers…..
As my daughter approached the sty…..the babies were all in a piglet-pile taking a nap…..

…..the vultures mistook them for a pile of carcasses that needed to be dispatched…..

When Mama Pig spotted my daughter…..she started squealing with her happy-dance…..(looking forward to breakfast)…..
The ruckus woke her piglets…..

…..and they all started oinking and running around…..
The vultures were disappointed…..

…..the baby pigs weren’t dead…..
The big birds reluctantly flew off in search of their next breakfast option…..

It did remind me of years ago when my eldest daughter was a teenie baby napping in her baby buggy while I was digging fence posts holes……
…..I kept my eye on the circling vultures overhead…..who were keeping an eye on my deeply-sleeping daughter…..
