Remember when we thought that ultimately putting the “stupid hen” into the overly-secure turkey coop…..

…..that her chicks would be safe…..?…..

…..remember that!?!…..

…..well that was wrong…..

…..we’ve had rain…..we have mud…..

…..it’s everywhere…..

…..it’s in the lower portion of the turkey coop…..

WHERE DID THE STUPID HEN DECIDE TO NEST WITH HER NAIVE/TRUSTING CHICK-BABIES!?!?!?!…..

…..OF COURSE…..IN THE MUD…..!!!!!!!

…..what was wrong with choosing…..I don’t know…..ANYWHERE ELSE…..in the coop?…..

…..I was able to recover three who were mired in the mud (a couple were stuck in over their backs)…..

…..I was able to extract them, rinse them, and warm them up (they were mud-chilled)…..

…..we lost one…..

…..I currently have another chick-in-a-box next to me as I type this…..

WAIT…….THERE’S MORE…….

This is what I found when I went into the coop…………………

Aaaaaauuuuuugggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!

The only good thing (not for the snake)…..

…..is that it was already dead…..

…..but it was planning on coming into the coop to eat a chick…..

It had gotten stuck in the aperture of the fencing and couldn’t go backwards or forwards…..

…..and (unfortunately for him) his backend was over the electric fencing wire…..

…..and he got toasted…..oh dear…..

…..necessarily…..in order to remove Mr. (or Ms.) Snake…..I had to cut him in half…..

…..but not to be wasteful…..

…..I put him (both pieces) on our crow-feeder…..

…..I figured if the crows didn’t want him…..the hawks would…..

Now I ask you…..

…..does this head look like a pygmy rattle snake head?…..

(…..I’m just not sure…..)

…..but the body markings sure do look like a pygmy…..

…..I’m not usually this cavalier with snake bodies…..

…..but…..I’d like to reiterate…..he’s already dead…..

You know…..looking at these photos…..as I’m typing this…..
