12—Step—Program

12—Step—Program

I look at life like it’s a Twelve Step Program.

In it’s own way———it really is.

There are challenges in life.

But, there’s a progression, too……………..

…………….there’s a direction you need to head towards.

I believe there’s a sense and meaning to it all……………there has to be.

When things get hard, you focus on the next step.

Just the next step…

Don’t think about the big picture…

Just the next step…

……….making your foot step up……….

Not falling.  Not faltering.  Not stopping.

Right now, I’m wishing the step risers weren’t quite so high.

But I’m taking that next step.          And then the next.

What I hadn’t mentioned before, was that “Inside Phil” (our hand-raised turkey) got decapitated by the Wolfhounds the day before Bell died.

It was early morning, I was at a doctor’s appointment.

When I got home, my husband told me that the dogs reached through an eight inch span of the field fencing by the garage door……………….and poor Phil was within reach.

……………and that was that.

So, I immediately put tighter aperture wiring up in that eight inch section………………but that didn’t help Phil.

It didn’t help Phil one little bit…………..poor, silly, trusting bird.

Life on a farm is very blunt and black & white.

You do the best you can…………………..and sometimes you just end up shutting the proverbial barn door after the horse has gotten out…

But you keep trying.        Or you quit.

We lost nine horses and one donkey in 2018……………..

I’m still trying to see how I can make lemonade out of all of this…………….

It’s not a life for those who are uninvolved or unattached…

You have to be invested and you have to care…………….or else you’re in the wrong line of work.

Here’s another adage that comes to mind:  “If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen”………………………….2018 was a pretty tough, hot year.

……………I think I’m too old to leave the kitchen now.

……………but this year was pretty damned hot…………

Some things you just can’t wash off or un-see.

  1. Hmm it seems like your website ate my first comment (it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I had written and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any tips and hints for beginner blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.

    1. I agree, the computer-world has been acting weird recently. I don’t mind helping, but I really don’t know what I’m doing either………..I really don’t. But having a fellow-writer to chat with is great. All I can really give advice on is comma use and parenthetical expressions…………I like parenthetical expressions…(and extra periods…)
