My older daughter and I have an early morning routine…..

We get up early…do basic animal-husbandry routines (including our own)…..

It’s dark…it’s quiet…it’s a good time to set our intentions for the day…..

…..and then…we sit down and we write…..

My older daughter has always been an avid/prolific writer of prose…..

And as we all know…I write…”this”…(I don’t know why…but I do)…..

…..(I think it’s some sort of therapy)…..

We’ve noticed something else…..

…..we are only given an allotted amount of time by the other household creatures…..

You see…they only minimally tolerate our pre-dawn routine…when it doesn’t apply directly to them…..

So…after their second pre-dawn nap…(as opposed to their first pre-dawn nap)…(or their later post-breakfast nap)…..

They’ve decided that our creative writing time is done…..

They’ve become overly animated and forceful in their efforts to stop us…..

…..much like toddlers…if the focus isn’t on them…then they need the focus to be on them…always on them…..

…..(but…around their naps)…..

They want fresher water…they want snackles…they want more snackles…..

They want scratches…they want rubs & pats…..

…..they want to wipe their wet whiskers on you…..

They want…they want…they must have…..

…..forget writer’s block…..

We have actual furry body-checks…..

…..muzzles forcefully resting on your forearm…forcing your hands off the keyboard…or constantly typing errors…..

…..ssssssssssssssssssssttttttttttoooooooooooooooopppppppppppppiiiiiiiiiittttttttttttttttt!!!…..

Cat hair forced up your nose…with resulting sneezes…or cat tails flicked in your eyes…..

…..or worse…..

Try some creative musing while staring off into the middle-distance…and realizing you’re staring at a cat’s butt that is way too close to your face instead…..

…..that really cuts into your creative processes…..

But that’s how our days begin…..

Early to bed…early to rise…setting our intentions for the day in the quiet soft darkness of the serene pre-dawn…..

…..yep…that’s our morning routine…..

Forget running out of ideas to write about…we run out of our allotted time long before that…..
