What Killed Bell…….(?)…

Well, the lab report on Bell’s liver is back…
And the only thing we are sure of is…..that Bell and her baby are still dead.
Pyrrolizidine Alkaloid plants are the accused culprits…
Okay……………………

As far as I can tell, there aren’t any pyrrolizidine alkaloid plants in the pasture where she died.
And believe me, I’ve checked…
But here’s a paper that explains this sort of plant poisoning…………………..
And if that wasn’t confusing enough, here’s another one………………………
*******Even Wordier & No Pictures*******
(The first paragraph~~~the summary~~~is worth the read.)
But back to the fact, those plants aren’t in the pasture that Bell was in.
I’m so tired…
I’m so sad and tired…

I found an alfalfa cube in the bottom of Brave’s feed bucket (which is attached to a tree in that pasture).
………………….not a biggie. I have alfalfa cubes in feed bins in the garage that I feed to other horses or use as treats.
Here’s the catch, I don’t feed alfalfa cubes to Brave. He gets a high-fat sweet-feed twice a day…
I’m currently pouring over the recorded surveillance camera footage (in real time)…
All I’m finding so far is Brave and bugs (around the camera lens)…

I am so tired, and sad, and scared…
~~~~~~~again, back to applying that Twelve-Step Program of Life~~~~~~~
All I want to do is Fox Hunt, trail ride, and maybe dust the house………………in that order………………..(but I’ll settle for the first two).
I have another friend (Suellen) who is willing to help me train up Brave, so that we can lead and load him into a stock trailer.
Then I can send him to a willing cowboy to train him up further………….you know, for more and better table manners———napkin on the lap/no elbows on the table/learn the difference between a soup spoon and a dessert spoon………..that sort of thing…
This all has to happen before he dies too from mysterious, unknown causes.
And then, once he has table manners……………..I can send him to an equine reproductive center to “learn how to” use a phantom mare, so that he can be “collected” and we can store his semen for posterity…………..
Confused?……….
Don’t ask………….
No really, don’t ask…………..I can’t explain AND keep my posts PG-Rated.
I’m so sad for the loss your beloved horses. What a mystery!
As for the alfalfa cube, maybe a squirrel dropped it there. Those buggers steal anything not tied down.
Thank you so much for that potential. We do have a lot of squirrels. I still have the infamous alfalfa cube tagged and bagged in my refrigerator…………..my fridge is beginning to look like a crime scene………..I should leave a baseball bat by the door.
