Used Telephone Poles & A Potpourri Of Uses
The new gold standard…………………..
Used telephone poles.
In rural settings, old telephone poles can be used for so many things:
Fencing;
Pole Barns (couldn’t find a photo of a pole barn);
Cavaletti poles (al beit large ones);
Hitching Posts;
Log Skidding Practice; and Jumps; and lots of other things.
Sometimes, you’ll be able to get them at a utility company’s headquarters.
If you are lucky enough to find any there that are available, you will probably have to sign a release saying that you never-ever intend to use them for construction……………………..
…………………………Well, that’s easy enough to sign…………………………
A couple years ago, my daughters and I ran into a potential plethora of poles when the local utility company was replacing all of the telephone poles on our roads and adjacent once. See (“Hog Jowls & Collard Greens” post/published January 1, 2018).
Now, we barter with other horse people using our ever-popular telephone poles…………………we have them………………and they don’t…………….heh, heh, heh…
The men in their utility trucks still recognize our truck when we’re on the road and they wave at us whenever they see us.
After I drove past them a couple days ago, when I was hauling the horse trailer to a Hunt this week, they recognized the rig and waved. Then when I was driving home after the Hunt, I saw some nicely cut-up, used poles where we had passed on the road previously………………..I think they were left for me……………..I intend to go back later and pick them up.
I do truly believe that proffered baked goods do rule the world!……..
