Tyra Taking Names

When a new horse is added into a pasture…there is always a political shake down with regards to the equine hierarchy of the group…..
Actually the same thing happens with other livestock too…cows…dogs…goats…chickens…..

And quite often the new kid on the block enters in at the bottom of the ladder…..
But…not so with Miss Tyra…..

When Tyra arrived a few weeks back…the mare’s pecking order was inevitably going to change…..
…..(look at that last sentence…”pecking order”…I’m sure it was derived from chickens slap fighting each other to see who was boss)…..

My daughters and I were making bets on who was going to be top dog of our little herd…..
…..(and there’s another expression about animal superiority…”top dog”)…..

…..(I guess it’s a farm thing)…..
My daughters and I all agreed…100%…that Tyra was going to be Boss Mare…..

So we sat back…and watched the entertainment…..
We dragged the adirondack chairs to the front yard…sipped our tea…and watched the politics unfold…..

…..(it was great country entertainment)…..
When Tyra first arrived…she stepped off the trailer…and perused her new vista…..
…..it was kind of like she was already taking names…and planning her next strategic move…..

Tyra isn’t aggressive……
She’s just very very confident in herself and her intended rung on the ladder…..

She immediately had the attitude of…”Hold my beer, Crimson, while I take care of this little Pepper pony”…..
I believe Tyra immediately was self-crowned…Head of the Herd…..

Now I just hope the other mares come to appreciate Tyra’s self-coronation…..
She certainly has a presence about her…..

All three mares are about the same height…they’re all beefy and tall (around 17+ hands)…..
But Tyra has “that presence”…..

She seems bigger…she seems larger………….much more formidable…..
The only thing missing is her war horse armor…and she confidently has that “take no prisoners” attitude…..

Before Tyra arrived…Pepper was definitely the lead mare…..
Pepper knew it…Crimson knew it…and they had easily shook hands (hooves?) and agreed upon it…..

Mary Constance had told me that when all three mares were at her place…and in the same pasture with some of her other horses…..
…..there was a gelding there who had established himself as being in charge…without any kerfuffle whatsoever(?)…..

But when Tyra was the last to arrive here at our place…(Pepper and Crimson had already come home two months earlier)…..
…..Tyra stepped off the trailer ramp…and looked around her new kingdom…..
She took immediate ownership…..

And………….I think Pepper has already figured that out too…..
Crimson certainly did…..

And Tyra…..?
Tyra already came with that understanding…..
