I thought I’d over-load this post with a bunch of photos of the wild turkeys that call our Swamp home…..

They’ve really multiplied recently…and become far less shy…..

I recently had to go into the backyard before letting out the hounds…because it was covered with a big flock of visiting turkeys…..

They seemed totally unconcerned that I came out and tried herding them over the fence and into the safety of the back swamp…..

…(look at those cute knock-knees)…

They weren’t irritated…they just didn’t want to cooperate…and it was kind of like trying to herd cats…..

…..not very successful…..

They actually acted like silly turkeys…..

Most all of them seemed to be adolescents…it was hard to tell if they were toms or hens…..

I’m kind of thinking they were mostly immature toms…but what do I know?…..

Their beards weren’t developed and neither were their head-accoutrements…..

In the past we’ve had to slow down the truck and follow a meandering family group home…because they wouldn’t get off of the road…..

They really like hanging out in the pasture’s sun in the afternoons…just dusting and scratching and napping…..

I’m really not sure where they go at night…up in the trees I guess?…..

I have to be honest and say that for a brief moment…I did consider eating them…..

But Look At Those Skinny Legs!…..

They are just feathers and bony knees…there ain’t no visible drumsticks!…..

…..(besides I’ve been spoiled and indoctrinated over the years by store bought turkeys with exaggerated breast meat from DNA hybridization and saline injections…birds who are given ample antibiotic and steroid enhanced feed…just so we can all stay super healthy)…..

So the wild turkeys will be left un-harassed this year…at least by us…..

I really wish they’d stay out of the backyard…..

I might not notice them in time…..

And I know an Irish Wolfhound’s sprint speed is much faster than the turkey’s runway lope and cumbersome take off…..

…..they are just not built for air speed…..

Happy Thanksgiving…..
