To Fix Or Not To Fix…….

It’s never good to put off repairs…

I’ve learned over the years that when you first notice something needs fixing……………………that’s the time to fix it…
I have learned this…
Yes, I have…
I just haven’t learned to listen to that inner voice that tells me to fix something RIGHT THEN!!!
So a little while ago, I noticed that the post in the ground (that secured the PVC hose connection) had rotted.
It’s an important hose. We use it to fill multiple water tanks and tubs for a lot of critters
It would have been/could have been a simple fix…
.
…….in a timely manner…
…….dig an adjacent hole…
…….find a broken fence post…(they’re everywhere).
…….sink in the new (old) supporting post next to the hose’s PVC…
…….anchor the whole thing down…….

…….and Bob’s your Uncle…
That would have been great.

But that didn’t happen…
I don’t know how many of my family used that wobbly hose without thinking it needed repairing……………probably everyone.

So one morning this last week, my younger daughter came into the house with a blanched, panicked look…….
I knew something very unhappy had happened.
And it had…………….
The rotted post had done what was expected…

It rotted off…
The PVC connecting to the hose torqued underground…
…….and it snapped at the subterranean elbow-joint.
A geyser ensued…….

Spigots were rapidly twisted off; fuses were pulled; & switches were flipped.
And bingo-bango every pipe on our property went totally dry…

No possibility of doing laundry, or dishes, or dare I say…………..flushing the toilet…
~~~~~~~~~~Something had to be done…….quickly…
Paolo to the rescue!!!
He returned home that evening with a shopping bag full of appropriate PVC part, the duo-cans of PVC glue, a cute little hacksaw and a Can-Do Attitude!
And away we went……………
We dug and sawed and spliced and we glued……………………
……………………I love that glue…….
Hey, what can I say! I’m a product of the late sixties/early seventies…….
I’m honest!
Paolo insisted on doing all the gluing.
The water spigot is now securely fixed.
The dramatic Water Disaster has been tamed.
And Paolo has prudently hidden all the left-over glue.
