I hate ticks…..

*****(Tick Info)*****

When we lived in New Jersey…there were ticks…it was something you had to be aware of…..

But…they’ve never really been a big issue here in Central Florida…..

Maybe over the decades…we’ve had to remove one or two from the hounds…..

The biggest problem we had was years ago…when a hunter dragged a field dressed deer through our yard…..

The dead deer must have had lots of ticks…because they all leapt off what they considered to be a sinking ship…..

The ticks found their way onto whoever walked past…which were our Irish Wolfhounds…..

Fortunately…that was years ago…and we were able to eradicate the blood sucking boogers after that…..

This last Spring…I read a couple articles about the fears of the Lone Star Tick…and its migrations to Sunny Sub-Tropical Florida…..

And…at least one did…..

I had to remove a juvenile Lone Star Tick from the back of my younger daughter’s hand…..ewwwww!…..

…..it hadn’t been on very long…it was still flat and skinny…..

Then a few weeks later I found a very average deer tick…in my underpants…..

And I don’t want to talk about it…..

…..(I just might have gotten a little hysterical after that)…..

But Doctor Brigid talked me off the ledge…and told me that Guinea Hens love to eat ticks…..

And then…(bless her cotton socks)…she bought some guinea eggs…succinctly incubated them…and hatched out a variety of Guinea Hen keets…..

We now have four keets (baby guinea hens)…***(Caring for Guinea Keets)***…..

Guinea Keet

They are currently in the coop…along with the baby chickens…getting acclimated to the outdoors…..

I even think I overheard the good doctor mention something about incubating another round of guinea eggs (?)…..

I want to make sure all the poultry babies get used to living in the coop…before I let them out…..

That way…they’ll all understand that the coop is their “safe place”…..

…..and where they need to return at night…Every Night…(in order to stay alive)…..

It’s a process…a slow process…involving lots of repetition…that they will hopefully remember…..

It’s a good routine for life…one they’ll need to wrap their tiny little heads around in order to survive…..

When I was very young…we had guineas on our farm in Ohio…..

They were great barnyard watch dogs………….LOUD………….but effective…..

I’m hoping these keets grow up to be great tick-eater…and very loud watch dogs…..

…..and they will willingly come back to the safety of their coop every night…..

I feel quit sure our obnoxious next door neighbors will immediately pass judgment on the guineas potential occasional loudness…..

But we’ll have fewer ticks…..

…..and………….Your Welcome…..
