The Nuances Of Mowing

Along with a day’s worth of mowing…
…..I got to visit with friends…
I had a long interaction with a male Red-Shouldered hawk while mowing the pasture in the front.

If you remember from an earlier post, he and I have a symbiotic-relationship.
The tractor and I beat the ground with twirling/metal blades, while he sits in various perches…..following us…..waiting…..

He’s an opportunistic dude…
…..he’ll swoop in after I’ve gone past and scoop up interesting “things” in his talons.

Then he’ll sit on a limb somewhere above me and go through and munch on his goodies…..
…..I think they’re grubs.

But during one of my previous mowing extravaganzas (a few months past) I stirred up a field mouse…….
…..since then Mr. Hawk thinks I’m the goodest buddy ever…
*****The Post About An Unfortunate Mouse*****
There were no field mice today (that I saw)…….I think I saw a couple Anole tails dangling from his feet after a couple of low-flying swoops.
***What’s An Anole?***

But he stayed close to me and the bush hog while I was in an open pasture with good/clear swoop-ability.
Then when I changed to the back yard, that’s where I ran into Mr. (or Ms.) Black Racer snake.

He used to be in the front pasture along with Mr. Hawk…….
…..but I think (with good/rational reasoning) he decided that living too close to Mr Hawk would not add to his longevity…
Good move Mr. Snake.

Oh, and I only got wedged once with the tractor and the bush hog.
So, I went forward & backwards & forward & backwards & forwards & backwards…….too many times…….
…..then I just rammed over the irritating/little fence post and merrily went on my way…….(it wasn’t a necessary post…….well, not now anyway).
Oh, and I have NO idea if Mr. Snake or Mr. Hawk are indeed Misters…….
…..and I don’t know them well enough to ask yet…
