We got the “Hee Hee’s”……………now we have to start working on the “Haw’s”…..

Bartholomew is growing up…..

We don’t really know how old he is…..

…..we’re estimating about nine months old…..

We have no idea how old his mother is…..

I think Doctor Stevie Wonder will be able to estimate their ages by their teeth the next time he comes out…..

Donkey’s are very gregarious…they are farmyard yentas too…..

If you want to know what’s going on…just check with the resident donkey…..

I don’t know how many donkeys I’ve known over the years…but there have been quite a few…..

…..with Sibyl and Bartholomew being our newest additions…..

I feel fairly competent with horses…(but there’s always more to learn)…..

But I feel much more experienced around donkeys…..

They have a thought process and intellect that is uniquely their own…..

I can spot when I’m being played…..

I can sense the subtle line-up for the upcoming kick…..

…..the double-barreled back kick…the sly cow kick…the piercing sharp stomp…..

I’ve experienced them all…..

And I can spot their architecture in the making…..

…..(donkeys have sharp nasty little hooves)…..

Every one of the donkeys I’ve ever had has known how to bray…..

I suppose it can be translated into a hee-haw…..

…..much like a rooster’s crow can be called a cock-a-doodle-doo…..

So if there’s a “hee” and a “haw”……………then Bartholomew hasn’t matured into his “haw” yet…..

He has all of the buildup…with multiple “hee’s”…..

But so far…he just can’t seem to belt out that overwhelming crescendo of a “haw”…..

It’s cute…he’s cute…..

…..but he’s only mastered a helium sounding “hee” so far…..

I’m sure he wouldn’t want to be called cute…as he’s intending to grow up into a manly Jack…..

…..but his tiny repetitions of squeaky “hee’s” are really adorable…..

I’m sure he’ll work it out in time…but for now…he’s just so damned cuddly…..

We won’t ostracize him too much…..

Now that their paddock has been cleared behind the barn…he and his mother will be going out shortly…..

…..after we have a chance to secure the fencing and gates from all of Hurricane Milton’s residual damage…..

…..it’s been a long long process…..

I’ll end this Post with some YouTube videos of the variety of donkey brayings (sp?)…(you know what I mean)…..

I’m sure that Bartholomew will soon find his “haw”…..
