The Great Gatsby

Gatsby’s getting old…..
He didn’t have an easy life as a kitten or as a young cat…..

At that time…my older daughter worked at a nearby pet shop…..
This shop worked with a local cat rescue…which had recently found a litter of kittens…left in an abandoned rental house…..

The renters had left…..
When the landlords came to clean the house for the next tenants (six+ weeks later)…they found an empty bag of cat food…a dry bowl for water…and several abandoned kittens…..

Somehow the kittens had survived…..
When my daughter first met Gatsby he was bonded to his brother…clinging to him for dear life…the two of them were supposed to be adopted together…..

But that didn’t happen…Gatsby’s brother was adopted…and Gatsby was left behind…..
Unbeknownst to my daughter…Gatsby had a sister (Zelda)…who’s adoption didn’t work out…and she was returned to the same pet shop…..

When my daughter came into work one morning…she found Gatsby was now clinging to his sister…they were inseparable…..
And they were put up for adoption………….again…..

My older daughter has a kind heart…she figured enough was enough…..
…..so Gatsby and Zelda came home to our house…..
…..and here they’ve stayed…..

Zelda settled into her life as a Diva…and Gatsby just settled in…..
All animals have personalities and quirks…just like people…..

Gatsby is no exception…he’s a meat thief…..
He’s a kind/pleasant lap cat…unless there is an unguarded piece of meat left out…(or an unguarded cup of tea)…..

I’ve seen him out sprint me down the hallway…while straddling a raw steak…and disappear under my bed…..
I’m not proud…of course I wrestled the steak from him…(lint and dirt and everything else)…I took it back to the kitchen…rinsed it thoroughly…and cooked it…..

…..(while under constant watch)…..
Gatsby and Zelda have been with my daughter since 2017…..

Recently…Gatsby has been losing weight…(but not his appetite)…just his body volume…..
He’s all fur…and bones…with an appetite…the same attitude…and the same proneness to meat thievery…..

He and his sister are both house cats…..
So we aren’t worried about him fending for himself against the elements and wildness outdoors…..

Even though he resembles a bony Tim Burton skeletal cat animation…he’s very nimble…(and fast when necessary)…and he still has a tremendous appetite…..

So…we’ll keep him well fed and comfortable…for as long as he chooses to stay with us…..
We all hope it’s for quite awhile longer…..

Gatsby had a tough beginning…but we love him…with all his quirks…appetites…and boniness…..
He has a forever home with us…..
