The Billy Goats Go To Market

The Billy Goats Go To Market

With help from my family, we took half of the goats intended for sale to the butchers.

That’s Optimus Prime—–He’s A Keeper—–For Now.

I don’t think I posted about the last time I went to the butchers…………….

What a debacle!

After I had dropped off the goats, I started to return home with the empty cage in the bed of my truck.

Who would have guessed that the shade cloth (zip-tied on the top of the cage) would have acted like a parasail…………!??!

That chainlink cage immediately went airborne when I pulled onto the Interstate.

It wasn’t pretty.

Watching it take off from the bed of my truck was a slow-motion, OMG event.

But fortunately the cage quickly bounced to the side of the highway and no one was hurt!

It sure did have nightmare potential………and, it was definitely no longer useable………………

So we got another cage…………….and better ratchet straps with bigger hooks………………..

On this recent trip I spent a lot of time looking out the rearview mirror watching for a repeat of the last parasail-airshow.

Fortunately, it didn’t happen.

Note The Nettles………………………………….Everywhere…

We have five more goats to take down next weekend………….along with some very mouthy, extra roosters…………….(don’t worry Simone—–both Rex & Goliath are safe).

…………I ran out of steam today………..goat-wrangling is exhausting……..my finger joints are all swollen…………goats are so good at twisting their heads & horns and wrenching fingers & wrists…

But given the outcome……………..I think I would have wanted to snap off a few fingers too.

We do have a freezer full of freshly frozen goat meat.

It’s not hard picking which goat is going into your freezer as packaged meat for curry………….especially after they have used your mouth as a ladder rung to reach the feed bucket you’re holding above your head…………………….TWICE!!

Cloven-Hoof Prints

You just CAN’T get “that” taste out of your mouth!

No wonder I have TMJ.

I’ve already left a message for one of our fox hunt’s Joint Masters.  He spent time in Jamaica………..and loves my curry.

Tumeric………..good stuff…………no matter what my children say………..

(Okay———maybe I can’t sneak Tumeric in their breakfast oatmeal anymore………the color gives it away…)
