~~~It’s That Time Again~~~
NETTLES!!! Those @#$%@# ‘ed weeds are back…….(AGAIN)……. …..sigh……. …..I don’t want to deal with them……. …..I don’t want to write about them…….again……. So…..I won’t……. …..I don’t want to have to spray them……. …..I don’t want to torch them with one of those hand-held, incendiary-thingies that Jimmy Billy suggested last year…….(although that does sound intriguing)… …..maybe if I ignore them thoroughly…..maybe…..just maybe…..they will go away……. I hate these @#$%@#’ed fireweed-nettles……. (Should you be interested…..here are past posts on these booger-plants…….  …
Tools of the Trade
  Swamp Hag versus the environs…………… I suited up again and continued my assault on the nettles…………… I am happy to say (am I?) that after a number of years “the powers that be” have given the @%#$&*@#$ nettles its own call-name. “Fireweed” finally seems to be the commonly accepted name… Well, that rolls off the tongue easier I guess… The insidious weeds are still highly invasive… So I spray…………… And I slosh…………… And I waddle…………… But if I am…
The Nettles & The Hag
The Nettles & The Hag
  Finally———Today was the Day… Today was the day, I pulled the new back-pack sprayer thing out of its box———read the directions (sort of)———-and Paulo measured out the herbicide———and away I went. First of all———four gallons of fluid strapped to your back is heavy… Secondly———-it’s super top-heavy and sloshy… But two artificial hips and two artificial knees offer a better stability than I think I ever had before…………….(and, don’t tell my orthopedic surgeons). I only got the sprayer hung up…
Nettles———They’re Back!
Nettles———They’re Back!
  My most-favorite plants ever are poking their sweet, little, pastel, tender, tortuous, sprouty-heads above the ground again. It’s that time of year……………….yippee! Woot!  Woot!   …………………………………………. I hate these hateful plants.   They are indelible and permeating and sprawling and hearty and absolutely everywhere. And they are just plain mean. They trick you with their fresh minty-like look, and then they bite/burn/singe/welt/& sting you…………..and the symptoms don’t go away quickly………….like the reference articles say they should. They last for…
The Year Of The Goat
The Year Of The Goat
  Surprise~~~~~the last few days have been spent on fixing fencing. Surprise!  !@*%#$*@#@! I have no other activities it seems……………..in my spare time, I fix fencing. Ugh.  This is getting old.  I can’t put on or take off rings because my fingers are contused and swollen from hammer smashes. Old, hard, pine posts combined with my all-time favorite hammering projectile………………..the fence staple.  They are both a nasty combination.   Those things have got to have been created by the same…
Here’s The Run-Down
Here’s The Run-Down
The dishwasher is now on the fritz.  So I’m standing at the sink doing dishes.  I’m looking out the window.  And here comes Ben, our new Irish Wolfhound puppy, trotting onto the back porch, proudly dangling a dead rat by it’s tail from his mouth. We live in a swamp……….on a farm……….there’s dribbled food for various farm animals everywhere.  So, of course we have rats.  In fact we have a variety of rats.  Our rats are multi-generational……….I catch them and…
You Can’t Fault Them……….sigh…..
You Can’t Fault Them……….sigh…..
            Animals are animals. Beasts are beasts.  You can’t expect them to behave differently than Mother Nature intended.  (I’ll throw humans in that animal category as well.) But a person can intervene and try to alter the outcomes. And here we are AGAIN—–with the dead electric fencing………….. One of our clever (stupid) dairy goats somehow got into the backyard yesterday. Not the best of choices.  Not a choice that reinforces her personal longevity. Now enter seven…
Sand Spurs
Sand Spurs
  They’re back. Just when you thought there were enough weird things in semi-tropical Florida—–here’s another fun little plant………………Sand Spurs. Mother Nature’s painful idea of a plant being able to traverse and re-populate. It’s that time of year when everything is going to seed.  Dandelions are nice when they go to seed.  Plus they’re a good tea but a better wine. They are a gentle weed.   The fluffy little, poofy things wafting in the air are so pretty.  Very…
