Farm Maintenance Projects

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* After having watched the neighbors recent late night fireball of a bonfire…I’ve decided…I’m not going to burn any of our remaining piles of wood that are still scattered around our property after last year’s Hurricane Season….. I decided there’s another option rather than the risk of more fires…it just too dry right now….. The meteorologist just said that compared to last year rainfall…we are 22″ less than last year…(granted we were in the…

The Magnetism Of Gates

The Magnetism Of Gates

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** In any given pasture…there are gates….. There’s a need for gates…at least one gate….. The majority of a pasture’s fence line is made up of…well…fencing….. Pasture fencing is made to contain animals…..(hence…rolled wire fencing is called livestock fencing)….. Gates are meant for ingress and/or egress of people…and critters….. What I’ve noticed over the years is that gates have a secret magnetism all their own….. …..even though there’s far more fencing material that makes…

The 2025 Hurricane Season

The 2025 Hurricane Season

*******Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps******* Yes Folks…..the official start of the 2025 Hurricane Season begins in two days….. It starts all over again on June 1st….. Yes it does…and so soon….. …..Woot…Woot….. …..(that was meant as extreme sarcasm…just in case you were wondering)….. No–I’m not excited about its arrival…No–I’m not celebrating it’s start….. …..I’m bilious….. I’m gun-shy about this coming season…I think that’s understandable….. I just can’t muster any puffed-chest bravado….. I don’t want it to start…again….. I…

~The Back Deck~

~The Back Deck~

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** We have the majority of a large deck (mostly) finished behind our porch….. It’s right outside our back door….. It’s a simple deck…made of pressure-treated boards…which are placed with a little bit wider space between each board…(so it’s easier to sweep all the Irish Wolfhound dirt and sand through the cracks)….. I love our hounds…but they are sand magnets….. They can’t help it…it just comes with the territory….. My older daughter and her…

The Chaos Which Is Farm Life

The Chaos Which Is Farm Life

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** I’d like to be talking in this post about Irish Wolfhound puppies…and posting pictures of cute little rolly-polly fuzzy jellybean-shaped puppies….. But…No….. Sabine is doing fine…and her children are all thriving….. We haven’t had to tube-feed anybody yet (which is wonderful)…because Sabine is making enough milk…and her puppies all got ample colostrum….. …..Those Are All Tremendous Pluses….. However…all of this has been over-shadowed…BY ANOTHER FENCE CUTTING(!?!)….. Ben and Acacias got out at about…

*The Last Fire*

*The Last Fire*

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** We’ve had a teensy little (cool-ish) cold snap….. I’m sad to say…this might just be the last opportunity for a fire in our fireplace…until next Fall….. …..Oh…Nooooooo….. I like roasty toasty fires so much…I don’t want the cold (cool) weather to go away until next Winter….. I’ve still got so much wood to burn from Hurricane Milton….. I have my teeny diminutive chainsaw that I stihl want to play with….. This can’t be…

Pigs And Pens

Pigs And Pens

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** You’d think by now…we’d be caught up with the Hurricane Milton repairs….. But…you’d be wrong….. MaMa Pig is still in “her” stall in the barn…she’s been there since Milton rolled over us….. …..(and she’s not a good house guest)….. The horse stalls in the barn were never intended to house pigs….. …..but in recent years…that’s all they seem to have been used for….. Originally…I sloped the stall floor with red clay…then covered it…

It’s Truly Winter

It’s Truly Winter

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** Well…I won’t complain….. I’ve seen the weather maps for the States up North….. You guys are getting hammered….. When I recently spoke with my Aunt Cory in northeastern Ohio (just a few miles from the Lake)…she keeps me updated on the snow storms….. She just looks out her kitchen window and estimates how much snow is stacked on her picnic table….. …..(and there’s a lot)….. A few weeks ago…she lost her mailbox to…

~A Winter Solstice Tradition~

~A Winter Solstice Tradition~

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** This last Saturday was the Winter Solstice….. …..the darkest day of the year for us….. We started and have continued a tradition of having a bonfire on the Solstice….. This year it was icy…(by Floridian standards)….. …..not compared to the weather that my relatives are having up in Northeastern Ohio….. But cold for us….. The bonfire was nice and toasty….. Good friends came over….. Food was brought and appreciated….. Beverages were available….. …..and…

*Continued Milton Clean-Up*

*Continued Milton Clean-Up*

**********Please Subscribe To My Blog…..It Really Helps********** Hurricane Milton blew out one of the walls of the chicken coop….. I felt bad for the old biddies…when we checked on the outside damage the next morning after Milton had passed….. …..and we saw them all sitting on their normal perches…but their fluffy backsides were exposed to the entire front yard….. We were able to keep them temporarily safe with some quickly nailed up wood scraps….. …..but a permanent fixed needed to…
