Swilling Tea & Watching Bees

What a great way to start the day…
I wandered to the back with my first cup of tea to where the hives are…
Of course, I had to navigate around a multitude of dog-bombs on the ground in various degrees of disintegration.

Plus I had to maneuver around the Wolfhounds themselves (the ones who produced the bombs)……………all of whom wanted to trip me up and steal my tea………………..bad beasties!
Having successfully made it to the back-gate (semi-filled/tepid tea cup still in hand)———I went into the goat pasture and made my way back to the hive enclosure…
Ahhhhhhhhh…

It was beautiful…
The sun was rising…
Their wings were sparkling…

And they didn’t mind my being there…….(?)…….(!)…….(wow)…
*****Past hives have been quite pernicious*****

It’s interesting that individual hives have an over-all personality.

These two colonies are nice.
They each have a gallon of sugar syrup to draw from until they know their way around.

I’ve hidden a bee-feeder inside an extra hive body on the top of each of the primary hive bodies.
I’ve added entrance reducers so the little darlings can defend their homes more effectively.

That way robber bees (probably my earlier maleficent bees who left my previous hives) won’t easily take advantage of the newbies (new bees!?! HA! Get it!) and steal their honey stores and sugar syrup.
It was so tranquil just standing their watching them.
No one dive-bombed me…
Not once!…

I’ve had past hives who would have been all over me just for existing & breathing that close to their home……………little buzzing boogers with abusive, sharpness…
It’s too early to tell if these guys are going to work out in this new location…
But I sure hope they do…
They are away from the road (and the regular/ineffective mosquito-spraying-trucks).
They are up on blocks, so they should stay high and dry even if the water-level rises during the rainy season……………plus I have hip-waders if it does…

They are in a quiet sunny area in the back pasture…
The only animals that “might” bother them would be the overly-curious goats……………I feel sure that would only happen “once”…

Goats are certainly butt heads, but they are quick studies…
All In All, I think we are in a good place bee-wise…

I really do hope these guys want to stay and thrive here…
We potentially have a win-win situation…

So I didn’t know that bees abandon hives. Good to know.
There’s even bee-keeper-jargon that goes along with their abandonment. They “absconded”………they packed their bags filled with honey and pollen and they moved to a different neighborhood……..leaving me feeling thoroughly dis’ed.
That is a beeiful post! Tee Hee….
