We’re getting organized…

I’ve got enthusiastic friends on board…

The poultry has been identified and chosen…

Entry forms have been filled-out and sent in…

 

Our $3.00 entry fees have been emptied out of pockets and couch cushions and counted up…

 

 

Houston, we are on a go status…

However a tragic, major stumble has already occurred………………..(i.e.  my friend, Suzanne-Annette’s exhibit ducks were eaten by a dog owned by her Airbnb visitors………….sigh.)

The dog broke into her coop and killed and ate all (four) of her show ducks.

 

But our white Pekin duck (Duck Duck) has come to the rescue…

Duck Duck will be shown instead of the poor, already-consumed, original ducks…………

……….I gave Duck Duck to my friend………………I got tired of going out after dark, every night, and running her down to catch the silly bird in order to keep her safe in the coop over night…

 

***But Don’t Worry***

The duck-consuming dog, owned by Suzanne-Annnette’s Airbnb renters, has now been properly restricted and contained………………….I’m not angry with the dog, it was just being a dog………………..but the owners?……………….Please!

I’d have a lot to say to them……………if Suzanne-Annette would let me…

 

My black Runner Ducks (Poe & Edgar) are tall enough to step up onto our coop’s entrance-ramp on their own at sunset……………they put themselves to bed every night.

 

 

***So, Duck Duck is going to the Fair***

There will be a lot of other Pekin ducks entered.  Her competition will be stiff.

I’m sure Duck Duck will rise to the occasion and do well…

 

 

Simone will be showing Rex, one of our Blue-Laced Red Wyandottes.  Lola will be showing one of our Buff Orpington hens.

 

 

My daughters will be showing a Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte hen along with a Black Copper Maran hen…

Simone would normally show her tried-and-true, blue-ribbon-winning Partridge Rock rooster, “Chicken Whine”……………but he up and died over the summer, for no obvious reason whatsoever.

So, Rex has stepped up to become Simone’s new potential-champion bird………….(Rex is short for “Rex Goliath”———yes, it’s a wine-label———and just maybe it’s Simone’s favorite)………………..(and yes, we have a back-up Blue-Laced Red Wyandotte rooster whose name is Goliath)…

Rex Goliath Cabernet Sauvignon & Merlot are pretty good wines…………..(but nothing will ever replace my yen for mediocre bourbon).

 

Lola’s Buff Orpington hen has been named…

……………her name is “In The Buff”
