Sousa and Pretty Explosions

Sousa and Pretty Explosions

Steaming, simmering heat.

Mother Nature’s promised fireworks to come in the afternoon.

Our stove finally sighed and died a couple of mornings ago.  We woke to a plaintive bleeping and an error-code that kept flashing it’s unhappiness.

The error-code couldn’t be fixed………….we only had 1-1/2 working burners out of four anyway………………………and any cookies on the top rack in the back of the oven always burned…………………soooooooooooooo……………….we’re okay with the oven finally kicking the bucket…………………….it wanted to for a very long time.

But, today is the Fourth of July……………………….a contentious day to begin with between a couple comprised of a Briton and a Yankee.

At least we got the air-conditioner fixed last weekend……………….and yes, it pooped out and needed servicing after 48 hours of no A/C.

Augh…………and so much sweating peevishness…

I’m going to be smoking chicken and ribs in the smoker……………….I’ll have to fiddle with the recipes today so that I can pull off a complete meal just using the cooker/smoker.

First thing that won’t be happening is the par-boiling of the ribs prior to smoking…………………no stove.

Next would be the oven-baked-beans……………….no oven.

I’ll put them in a bean pot and shove them in the back of the smoker.

Cucumber and sour cream salad………………..no problem………………..the fridge is still working (knock on wood).

Corn-on-the Cob…………………

hmmmmmmmmmm………………..it will have to be roasted and not boiled.

There we go!!!

Easy!!! Peezy!!!

Now the only contentious part of the day is that old, original history behind this holiday…………………..you know that whole “taxation without representation-thing”…………………Yanks versus Brits…………………it’s on-going here…

Hey it’s a good reason for a sweaty picnic, good food, and fireworks though, don’t you think!

Awwwwwwwww………………I forgot the watermelon……………….I remembered the rum for plugging it…………………….but I forgot the watermelon…………..Oops…

Happy Fourth of July.       More than just a Holiday.
