Sometimes The Crows Win…….And Sometimes It’s Me…

Sometimes The Crows Win…….And Sometimes It’s Me…

I know why a flock of crows is called a murder of crows…

We do battle daily…

Me versus the crows…

It’s actually pretty sad that I’m posting about my negative, social interactions with residential birds…

One would expect there are more important things to write about rather than honing in on my personal conflict with regional birds…

Nah………….

…..I got nothin’ better…

Actually it’s just one crow in specific…

(At times like this I realize I’ve stayed in the swamp too long…)

(The noxious miasma has gone to my head.)

I can recognize, interact, and relate to individual crows now…

I need to get out more…….

…..but this bird torments me so…….she pushes my buttons.

It all began with several of our errant/vagabond chicken hens.

Errant Hen’s Choice Of A Sleeping Perch

These hens insist on hanging out in the barn and not returning to the safety of the coop at night.

So far they’ve survived…….somehow…

Same Errant Hen

There are spots out in the barn where they like to lay their eggs.

Errant Hen #2

One of the spots is neatly in the corner of one of the stalls…….

See The Chicken Egg Behind The Ladder

…..while the other is behind some junk in the barn’s breezeway.

There’s The Crow…….Just Waiting

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
And this is where the games begin…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Every day this resident crow and I want possession of the same eggs…….

We both wait for the hens’ personal egg-timers.

Laying an egg is not on an exact schedule.

The murderous crows wait…….lined up on barn rafters…

@#$%@  Crows

I get on with my daily chores and hope I hear the hens announce their eggs.

This  @%&*$@  crow zooms me when I’m outside or perches nearby and jeers at me…

Hen Laying “Said” Egg

When we both hear the hens’ telltale cackles………….there’s a foot-race to see who gets there first to claim ownership of said eggs.

Said Egg

Some days it’s me……………..some days it’s the crow…

On “those” days, I see her flying overhead with the egg shell pieces still in her mouth…….

Curse you…….bird…….curse you!!!!!

Today…….I won…

I was in the barn when the hens laid their eggs…

The crows were lined up on their favorite rafters, but I wasn’t above tipping the hens prematurely off their nests to snag their eggs first!

HA!  You cursed crows!!!

HA, I say!!!

…..like I said…….I need to get out more………….

  1. Unfortunately, you are dealing with what is arguably, the smartest of all birds. They learn quickly, and don’t forget, especially where food is involved. Good luck with that.

    1. Yep…….the crows won today…

      The chicken hens are also arguably the stupidest of all birds…

      Who chooses to sleep on top of a fence post out in the swamp at night? Perfect zooming-range for a hawk or an owl.
