Sometimes it’s just better to walk away from something…..

Sometimes…(no matter how hard you try)…sometimes…somethings…refuse to be fixed…..

There’s been a lot of things over years that I’ve walked away from…..

There have been some things that I’ve just forgotten totally…(I can’t even remember how many…but I guess that’s the point of forgetting)…..

Somethings are better forgotten…..

My older daughter is still learning that fact of life…..

She wants to fix anything that’s broken…and she has a tenacious stubbornness…(I have no idea where that came from)…..

There have been very few projects that she’s deferred to “professionals” for help…..

…..here’s one example where she recently admitted to needing help…..

My daughter wants to take the big Stihl chainsaw to a Stihl repair shop…because she can’t get it running…..

…..(keep in mind…this is after it was discovered that a bag of horse mineral salt was dumped over the engine (by her younger sister) and left to foment for a number of months…..

Now…that one would be an (unfortunate) “Walk Away From” in my book…..

I just can’t see a salt packed two-cycle engine ever making a happy comeback…..

…..chalk up that successful debacle to her younger sister…..

As much as I hate to say it..that chainsaw’s a goner…..

Here’s another one…..

We recently tried buying a used toner copier on Facebook Marketplace…..

It was a good buy………….(for a reason)…..

My older daughter valiantly tried to fix it…(originally she knew nothing about copier repairs)…(now she knows more than she ever wanted)…..

She tried…and she tried…and she tried…..

And after a great deal of encouragement…(and my mounting concern)…..

I was able to coax her away from the disentangled…disembodied pile of useless plastic and canisters and tiny soldered lumps…..

We did have a repair guy have a look at it…and he just said…It’s Not Worth It…..

Hey…You Win Some…and You Loose Some…..

We now have a brand new color toner copier (with a warranty)…..

It was delivered to our doorstep by Amazon…(that mysterious frighteningly productive Blackhole of the Universe)…..

My daughter had to admit defeat………….(this time)…..

The old sad copier still lays strewn across the spare bedroom’s floor…..

My daughter says she’s going to “gut it for the gold”(!?!?!)…..

………….What!?!………….

At this point…I chose to very very quietly back out of the room…making no sudden movements…and without making eye contact…..

It’s just what a Mother does sometimes…..
