This is not a happy post…..

Snickers did not make it…..

My older daughter really really tried hard to save her…..

…..she went out every two hours…with conviction…..

…..but ultimately other plans were afoot for Snickers…..

She was our biggest…healthiest…most robust doe(!?!)…..

It makes no sense…whatsoever…..

The drenches…the injections…the soaked beet pulp…the supplements…the additives and vitamins…the good food…the nutritious alfalfa…..

She had kidded before…it didn’t appear that this birth was a particularly difficult one…but she went off her food immediately after kidding…..

…..she groaned continuously…constantly shifting her weight…never getting up…..

She ground her teeth often…(which is an indication that a goat is in pain)…..

No drooling…no vaginal discharge…no bleeding…she passed both afterbirths…..

We will put it in the category of Ketosis…but there’s something off about this year’s kidding season…..

…..it’s like we are dealing with something that’s new on the playing field…..

I wish I could offer more in-depth analysis…..

The only thing I can add…is that we are not the only farm having problems…..

Other goat farms are having issues with un-thrifty goats and difficulties with kidding…and ketosis…that isn’t really the run-of-the-mill ketosis…(?)…..

Some horse friends are having problems keeping good body tone and sheen on their horses…..

We’re having trouble keeping a good coat condition and body mass on Brave…he’s lost his stallion’s neck crest…but his feed hasn’t changed and he is on free-choice alfalfa 24/7…(?)…..

The woman we got our pigs from even said the feed that she’s been feeding for years isn’t what it used to be…..

This is all above my pay-grade…but something is very different across the board…..

It’s got a bad feel about it…..

I just wanted to pass it along to those of you with farms…to see if you’re experiencing anything like this…..

You’re not alone…..
