Shaving A Clyde

Shaving A Clyde

Call it Clydesdale-sacrilege, if you will…….

I’ll get to their full-body clipping later…

But for today, we were just concentrating on their leg feathers…

Aside Note:  Look How Tan My Farmer’s Arms Are Compared To My Pale (Patrice-Covered) Legs

Two horses;  Eight legs…

Hours of scissoring.  Hours of shaving…

I learned this time and wore my work gloves.

Goat Skin Work Gloves………….But Not One Of Ours

Otherwise, holes would have been worn into my thumb joints………….again…

That would have been because of the need for preliminary scissor-cutting of that extra long, tough Clydesdale leg hair…….

(I measured some of it…….9-plus inches)

We needed to remove as much as possible ahead of time…….

…..(we didn’t want to scare the clippers into jamming and not working at all).

Younger people can squat and kneel, and skooch around a horse.

Suzanne-Annette can…

I can’t…

Suzanne-Annette came over to help…

She’s used to trimming thoroughbreds…….not my wooly mammoths…….

…..she must be a good friend…

Addy’s Hoof

Mechanically my knees don’t let me squat anymore.  The titanium just won’t (shouldn’t) bend that far.

My heels will never be sat on again…

But after the first two hours, you get used to bending over and working upside down.

I had a wonderful, healthy flush and a radiating glow for a few hours afterwards.

(just don’t straighten up too quicky………….woo!  it’s better than the seventies!)

But finally……..Claire & Addy were svelte and gorgeous………….(and the foot garbage/mud fever/scratches/grease heel/whatever…can now be effectively treated & eradicated).

Lots of hair…….

Big heavy hooves…….

Back aches…….

Addy’s Chin

Now it’s time for me to go inside, plug in the waxer, and make sure my chin looks better than the girls.

Nope, Definitely Not Me

My horses are NOT going to look more planate & glabrescent than me…….(good words, huh?…..I’ll probably never use them again.)

I’m waiting for the blood to flow back into my toes…….it’s still pooled in my head and my ears won’t stop ringing.

  1. Somehow, your Blog topic segued this out of my nimble little brain, that you have a definite Old World bent, when it comes to critters. Irish dogs, horses from Scotland and France, an English hubby, Swiss goats, a sow that, and I agree after seeing that picture of her , seems to be rather Russian. Parrots, if you still have any. The only Merican animal you had, was the ferret. Unless I missed something. The cats I don’t know about, but at the Meadows it was Siamese. You have accumulated a mini UN of critters..
