Robber Bees

Robber Bees

Bee Hive #1

Honey bees are inherent hoarders…

Honey…….is what they like to hoard…….their own…….as well as others…

They organize hits and raids on other bee hives…

………….it’s a bee-thing.

*****Robber Bees Explained*****(they are so mean)

The trick is to have a strong enough hive who is able to protect itself & ward off other robber bees.

They need to be able to protect their own hive along with its honey stores.

Otherwise there will be honey-loss along with the loss of life with a lot of bee-body-carnage.

…..here’s a personal suggestion for new beekeepers (which was learned the hard way)…….

…..you don’t want to happen upon a robbery-in-progress…..

…..nobody will be in a good mood…

And you guessed it…….that is exactly what happened this week…

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I check on my hives daily when I am out doing regular barn chores…
I just eye-ball the hives and walk around them…….mostly to see if there are any new/bad activities…like…new ant trails…or new animal tracks…or just to make sure the hives are still active & happy…….
…..well………….my beezles weren’t happy.
I didn’t even get a chance to get up close and personal…….
…..everything was all abuzz         (HA!  Get It?  Abuzz!)…….
Bee Hive #2~~~(couldn’t get the photo focused/I was running away)
…..No…….I wasn’t wearing my veil…….I wasn’t expecting ANY confrontation…….
…..I should have known by the buzzy noises…….(but remember I’m from the Walkman-era and the great Rock Band concerts)……..and there I was within dive-bombing-range…….
…..and Bob’s your Uncle…….
…..the rest is history…….
…..Uncle Bob didn’t get in my way while I ran…….
Uncle Bob
…..he lead the way…….
…..and I booked it too……..
But one, incensed booger got stuck in my hair and really delivered a whollop of a sting!!!
I’m not a screamer…….but I AM a flailer.
I wish someone had gotten it on video…
It really hurt!
Nope, Not A Fair Depiction Of Me
I was really doing some high-speed dancing!
Even though the one sting was on the top of my head (in the divot left last spring by the flying fence-post-driver)……. *****See: Concussed & Other Safety Issues*****
…..the next day my forehead and my right eyebrow was swollen…
…..and the next day my droopy, crepe-saggy eyelid was swollen shut…
And now the swelling’s down to my cheek and jaw line…….
…..a very Quasimodo-esque, uni-lateral puffiness.
Then to add injury to insult…….I burned my already swollen forehead on the handle of a cast iron skillet that was freshly out of the oven.
I scorched & branded my forehead when I bent over to bring out another casserole………….I’m a mess…….don’t ask…
…….silly, silly me………….
Timing is everything…
…..and recently my timing’s been doo-doo…
