Poppy’s Here!

Poppy has arrived at Mary Constance’s.

She walked off the trailer and took possession of all she surveyed.
She sized up my daughter and took ownership.
Poppy is only eleven, but she has the maturity of a much older horse.
And this is just great for my child and my possessive concerns for my daughter’s safety.

No wobbles, no disorientation. She just stepped down the ramp.
She immediately got along with Claire and Chantilly like she’d known them forever.
I couldn’t have molded a better horse out of Play-doh.
She’s roly-poly……………….sturdy & substantial……………….a hefty girl………………we just won’t refer to her as fat……………no, we won’t.
But, an old farmer’s saying is that “fat is the best color on a horse.”

Well, that being said, Poppy is a VERY pretty color then.
The older gentleman that we bought her from in Kentucky had her in great condition. She is glossy and healthy.
We couldn’t be happier. And she got here safely.
It’s a win—–win situation.

She loads and unloads (in a horse trailer) easily. She’s great with her hooves (in terms of picking them up without issue and not trying to kick the nose off your face). She cross-ties.
……………….I have to interject here with a photo of how Chantilly DIDN’T cross-tie easily…………….

Mary Constance graciously said that the railroad tie was dry-rotted at the bottom…………..
…………………I’m picking up the replacement lumber from our sawmill tomorrow………………..
**********But back to Poppy’s Perfectness**********
She rides. She drives (both single AND as a team). She’s an easy keeper (which translates to: she can survive on air and water alone).

AND today, on her first ride under saddle, she didn’t bat a blonde eye-lash when a commercial dump truck sped past her and cheerfully honked his air-horn right by her (no joke)……………………I, on the other hand, threw up in my mouth & nearly passed-out………………..I was on Chantilly next to Poppy.
So all-in-all, Poppy’s great.
I, however, need improvement with my acid-reflux.
But……………..Poppy’s just great!………………

Thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who helped us find Poppy and get her down here for my younger daughter.
Let the healing begin…
