Finally…..

After such a long time…..

I have a Hunt horse again…..

I can’t tell you just how happy that makes me…I can’t stop grinning…..

Mary Constance has been Hunting her for me…giving her experience…and mileage…..

She told me that she even requested one of her lesson students to get on and off Pepper fifty times…in the clumsiest way possible…..

…..the young lady dragged her foot over Pepper’s rump…poked her in the ribs…hung on the stirrup extra long…got stuck half way on and half way off…basically she acted like a sack of potatoes being heaved onto Pepper’s back…..

Hey…I’m not proud…..

That’s exactly how I mount a horse…(you can’t expect titanium joints to have precision responses)…..

Mary Constance said Pepper passed that test…..

…..she patiently stood still…didn’t sidestep…or try walking (or running) away…..

In my youth…a horse trotting off while only my left foot was in the iron was not a problem…(it was a challenge and kind of fun)…..

But today that same scenario…would leave a flailing cursing old woman…face-planted in the dirt…..

Recently my daughters and I arrived at a Hunt fixture…we were there before the horses & hounds came back…..

Apparently that morning…the Hunt went off with a bang with multiple coyote viewings and lots and lots of runs…I heard that there were at least four different coyotes involved…..

The day was chilly…the horses were fit…and it looked like everybody had a Blast…..

I hadn’t seen a lot of old friends in a very long time………….it was wonderful…and I’d missed it…..

The fixture had suffered its own hurricane damage…but it was making a comeback…..

We loaded up Pepper in my older daughter’s trailer…and brought her safely home…with just “a few hiccups”…..

…..(but THAT’s a story for another post)…..

Brave immediately spotted Pepper when she stepped off the trailer…..

It was so good seeing him brighten up…(he’s been so sad since we had to put Claire down last Spring)…..

Pepper and Brave are getting along surprisingly well…she didn’t kick him once!…(that I saw)…..

…..she’s surprisingly kinder than Claire used to be…Claire would thump Brave (with love) on a regular basis…..

Of course…we’re hoping for a foal in about eleven months…but Brave is an older boy these days…..

…..(although he does have a glint in his eye)…..

Time will tell…..

At least they appear to be getting along as agreeable pasture buddies…..
