Otto Is M.I.A.

I just don’t know where we stand right now…..
Last night Otto came into the garage for the night…and he wasn’t looking good…..

We call him into the garage every night to keep him safe from the local coyote packs and bobcats and things that go bump in the night…..
…..but last night…when Otto came in at dusk…he was looking poorly…..

There was a little (very small) splash of blood on one of his forelegs…he was lethargic…plus he was drooling…..
Otto was a little wobbly…but still in control of his ambulations…..
But something wasn’t right…..

The garage was locked up…and Otto was safely inside for the night…..
…..but…..
Something was wrong…..

We had a fresh bowl of water put down and available for him…we had dry food…and wet food…..
Otto attempted to eat some of the wet gravy gruel…but his jaw just clattered and stuttered(?)…..

And then did we abuse our friendship with our veterinary friend Doctor Brigid…..?…..
…..You bet’cha!…..

I relayed to her that I had already gone over his body…and palpated Everything…..
First and foremost…there were NO fang perforations…..
…..(with all of our poisonous snakes in Florida…that an immediate go to)…..

…..his body seemed a little flaccid…innocuous…but not a really good body tone…..
Nothing seemed swollen…no point of impact…or abrasion…..

But his clattering jaw…his dazed expression…his drool…..
…..not good…..

Nothing was dripping from his nostrils…but he certainly wasn’t himself…..
We decided to keep him comfortable and warm…with food…and water…and we’d watch and wait…..

…..the last we saw Otto…he was curled up on a bed of towels…on top of the chest freezer in the garage…..
And the next time we checked…he had disappeared…POOF!…he was gone…..

I searched the garage…..
Both my daughters searched the garage…..

I crawled up on the freezer and checked behind the refrigerator and the freezer…..
…..and behind the water heater…..
…..but Otto wasn’t there…..

Doctor Brigid’s and our conversations led to the probability of some sort of potential head trauma…or artificial intentional poisoning…or possibly poisoning from the invasive Blue-Tailed Skink…..

*****(Is The Blue-Tailed Skink Poisonous To Cats?)*****
…..(and yes…the invasive Blue-Tailed Skink is a thing here in sunny sub-Tropical Florida…just in case you were wondering)…..

…..and possibly…if a cat decides to bite or lick one…there’s some sort of defensive poisoning that oozes out of its skin…..
But…what do I know(?)…..
However…Otto hasn’t shown up today either…..

We’re hoping that he’s hunkered down…somewhere…in the inaccessible recesses of our very cluttered garage…..
…..and that he’s healing…..

We are hoping that Otto will saunter up to us…and say he’s fine…..
…..But…..

Oh no. I’m so sorry. We started the year out with 8 cats. We currently have zero. I hope you find him. 😥
I am so sorry for you too. I’m hoping to see him come around the corner like nothing happened…but as the days pass it’s not looking too good. Loosing eight though…coyotes? They are very efficient survivors when they work as a pack.
Oh no! I hope he’s ok. 🤞🏻
Sadly…Otto hasn’t shown up again. We know he’s in the garage, but we can’t locate him. But maybe the good news is that the garage isn’t smelling yet(?). I hope he makes it.
