Don’t get me wrong…I Love Thanksgiving Day…and Everything it brings to the Table…..
It’s a Holiday with the Best of the Family at its Heart…..
But the Day After…now that’s Heaven…..
No rushing…No cleaning…No cooking…No baking…No aching back and feet…..
…..(and for the most part the dishes are “mostly” washed and put away)…(mostly)…..
I’ve always enjoyed the crunchy…semi-burned…thoroughly unpresentable nibbles that never make it to the serving tray…and they’re unceremoniously left behind in the pot or the pan in the kitchen…..
I have very accurate radar where those tidbits are concerned…..
I guess I’m just an old pot-licker…but that stuff’s the best…..
It’s worth the wait until the next day…(only if you’ve carefully stored & hidden them)…..
My daughters were trained by the best (me)…so it’s a foot race competition for who gets to the favored orts first…..
Patrice and I are stretched to the max…and it takes skill and concentrated effort to stretch overalls (without a waistband) to its limits…..
…..but I do…..
I’ve always been a fiend when it comes to pumpkin pies…..
They are always a staple on our table…but this year we added a peach pie…..
It was a new attempt…(for me)…..
My older daughter confessed to me that she doesn’t really like apple pie…What(?)…Who knew(!?!)…..
She said she’s told me before…(but I don’t remember…I really don’t)…..
She said she prefers peach pies……………again……………Who knew(!?!)…..
This time of year…there aren’t any fresh peaches in the stores…(I checked)…..
But I found a recipe using canned peaches…(but again…Who Knew you could use canned peaches!?!)…..
…..(well apparently Everybody…including my older daughter)…..
And damn…it worked out pretty good…..

Next year…I’ll have frozen fresh peaches in the freezer for my pies…but that canned peach recipe is a keeper too…..
Communication is such a good thing…..
Peach pie it is!…..
…..(However…I have to ask……………who doesn’t like apple pie!?!)…..
But…peach and pumpkin are just fine with me…(in separate pies)…..
See…you learn something new every day……………canned peach pies are a very good thing…..
And apparently…my daughter has been living in quiet despondency for all these years…..
…..having been force fed apple pies…..
Yesterday…this same individual quietly told me she really wasn’t fond of turkey either…but she’s grown to like it…..
She said…she was only there for the stuffing and the bean casserole(!???!)…..
What(!!!)…..
It appears…I’ve been living in the Matrix all this time!…..

That made me chuckle. I like peaches but not in a pie. Pumpkin on the other hand is quite another story. I didn’t get one this season but, I had perfectly done pork chop with my second favorite pie. Ok it wasn’t a pie but it tasted like it. It was bits of apple on the pork chops. The king is quite the chef and the queen is is quite the baker. I did have my favorite for my birthday and that was an amazing carrot cake.
I haven’t been writing much🤔. But there is a story formulating in my head. At least the title is: “My Month In A Castle”.
I could just write about the food? The only thing better than the food was the hosts. The princess bed was pretty damn awesome tho. But laughing late into the nite every nite was good for my soul. I needed that.
What kind of story about a castle would it be without a ‘Swamp Hag’? 🤔
There’s got to be a Hag in the moat under the bridge. They’re hard to identify…because of the algae and the moss on their northern side…swamp gas hardly ever works as an identifier…there’s just too much of it. But I digress, I’ve decided that pumpkin pie is a staple of life…and FYI never use canned evaporated milk (like some recipes suggest)…go for the big guns with the canned sweetened condensed milk. That stuff’s so good it should be illegal. Food is so much fun.
